An alarming incident involving a serving Indian Army Brigadier’s family has raised significant concerns regarding law enforcement responses in South West Delhi’s Vasant Enclave area. The incident reportedly took place on the night of April 11, when the family objected to two men consuming alcohol inside a parked car near their residence.
In a written complaint submitted by the family, the altercation escalated rapidly after the initial confrontation. Allegedly, the two men called in reinforcements, leading to the arrival of a group of approximately 7 to 8 individuals in multiple vehicles. This group reportedly assaulted the Brigadier’s son, inflicting injuries during the incident, and even manhandled the officer himself.
The Indian Army has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. According to a statement, a Military Police team has been assigned to assist the officer involved, and the Delhi Police are being urged to expedite the investigation.
One of the most troubling aspects of this incident is the reported inaction of the police. The family alleges that despite calling the emergency helpline (112), and even with a PCR vehicle arriving at the scene, no effective intervention occurred while the assault unfolded in the presence of police personnel.
Following the attack, the family attempted to file a complaint at the Vasant Vihar police station. However, they claim that their First Information Report (FIR) was not promptly registered, and they faced delays in receiving medical assistance. Consequently, the injured were ultimately taken to a military hospital for treatment.
With a formal complaint now submitted, authorities are expected to investigate the matter thoroughly. This incident has amplified concerns regarding public safety, response protocols, and the accountability of law enforcement agencies in such sensitive situations.
The case has sparked calls for swift police action, particularly regarding public disorder and assault, emphasizing the need for adherence to due process. As the investigation unfolds, a comprehensive response from authorities remains awaited.
