Axiscades Technologies Wins Contract to Supply Counter-Drone Systems to Indian Army

Indian engineering firm Axiscades Technologies has secured a significant contract to supply 12 man-portable counter-drone systems to the Indian Army. This procurement was made under the Ministry of Defense’s emergency procurement powers, emphasizing the need for a swift delivery of advanced defense equipment aimed at detecting, tracking, and neutralizing hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Although the contract value has not been disclosed, the urgency of the order underscores the growing threat posed by drones in military contexts.

The counter-drone systems supplied by Axiscades are designed to identify hostile UAVs from a distance of up to five kilometers. They are equipped to jam drone signals across various frequencies, effectively disrupting flight control and data transmission capabilities. This technological advancement is part of a broader strategy to bolster India’s defense readiness in a rapidly evolving aerial landscape.

Commenting on the contract, Sharadhi Chandra Babu, the President of Defense at Axiscades, noted that the deal reflects the government’s confidence in indigenous defense technology. He emphasized the company’s commitment to providing advanced, field-ready solutions that enhance national defense capabilities. This aligns with the government’s vision of achieving self-reliance in critical military technologies.

The need for such counter-drone systems has become increasingly pressing following several incidents, particularly along the Pakistan border, where drones have been used for both surveillance and arms smuggling. As commercial drone technology continues to become more affordable and easier to modify for military purposes, the urgency to develop effective countermeasures has intensified.

The contract with Axiscades is part of a broader initiative within the Indian military to enhance both offensive and defensive capabilities related to drone technology. Over the past year, the Indian Army and other defense services have been actively testing various platforms, including loitering munitions and long-endurance UAVs, from local suppliers.

This reliance on domestic firms, such as Axiscades, aligns closely with the Indian government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative, which seeks to prioritize local defense manufacturing. The aim is not only to address immediate operational needs but also to build long-term industrial capacity in vital defense technologies.
