State-run Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on Wednesday (December 20) signed a firm contract worth ₹488.25 crore with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the short refit of an Indian naval ship.

State-run Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on Wednesday (December 20) signed a firm contract worth ₹488.25 crore with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the short refit of an Indian naval ship.
“…we would like to inform you that, the firm contract with MoD has been signed on December 19, 2023, for a value of Rs 488.25 crore. The work package includes repair and maintenance of the equipment’s and systems onboard the naval vessel,” according to a stock exchange filing. The contract, officially signed on December 19, 2023, involves the repair and maintenance of equipment and systems on board the naval vessel, the company said.
The shipyard-initiated work on the project in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024, following the approval of necessity granted by the Ministry of Defence. The project is anticipated to be completed by the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025.
Earlier this month, the company signed a MoU with the Adani Group for constructing green tugs, after delivering the first of the two tugs ordered by Ocean Sparkle Limited, now owned by Adani Harbour Services Limited.
This is the first tug to be built in India under the Approved Standard Tug Design Specifications issued by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways for promoting the shipbuilding industry under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The company, in November, launched three Indian Navy vessels in the series of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow watercrafts from its Kochi Yard. The first ship of the project is planned to be ready for delivery by November 2024, the company said in a press release.
The company had signed a contract with the defence ministry in April 2019 to build eight ASW SWC ships. The first three ships launched would bear the names, INS Mahe, INS Malvan, and INS Mangrol after commissioning in the Indian Navy.
CSL DELIVERS IAC, PROJECT-71 (VIKRANT)
The IAC is the largest warship ever to be built in India having a deep displacement of appx 45,000 tonnes and is also considered as the most ambitious warship project of the country. It is unprecedented in terms of size and complexity in comparison to any ship (both commercial and defence) built in India till date. The vessel is a mammoth steel structure of 21,500 tonnes of special grade steel developed indigenously and used in Indian Naval Ships for the first time.
