Constable Ravinder Singh Honored with Commendation Disc for Bravery in Operation Sindoor

In a significant and emotionally charged ceremony, Constable Ravinder Singh from the Border Security Force (BSF) Jammu received a prestigious Commendation Disc from Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi. This recognition, bestowed on May 30, celebrates Singh’s remarkable bravery during Operation Sindoor, a vital counter-terrorism initiative launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred in April 2022.

Operation Sindoor has become a key anti-infiltration operation concentrating on dismantling terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Since its inception, the operation has reportedly led to the neutralization of over 100 militants linked to notorious groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). This mission underscores the Indian armed forces’ steadfast commitment to safeguarding national security and sovereignty amidst formidable challenges.

Constable Ravinder Singh’s recognition comes after a series of courageous actions displayed by BSF personnel along the turbulent Jammu border. The risks faced by these security forces were highlighted following the tragic loss of BSF Sub-Inspector Md Imteyaz, who was martyred during cross-border firing in the R S Pura sector on May 10, 2025, marking the dangers inherent to their duty.

General Upendra Dwivedi, who has been serving as the 30th Chief of the Army Staff since June 30, 2024, is known for strengthening India’s defense strategies. He holds two distinguished honors: the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. With decades of military experience, including roles as Vice Chief of Army Staff and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, his leadership has focused on enhancing technological modernization and combat readiness within the armed forces.

The Commendation Disc awarded to Constable Singh represents a high distinction within the Indian Army, symbolizing courage, dedication, and commitment to service. The medal is adorned with the Lion Capital of Ashoka and crossed swords, signifying Singh’s valor and unwavering sense of duty. Earlier in the month, another BSF Constable, Harvinder Singh, was similarly honored by General Dwivedi, further emphasizing the BSF’s vital role in Operation Sindoor.

In light of ongoing cross-border threats, the BSF remains determined in its mission. Plans are being developed to honor fallen personnel by naming border outposts after them, ensuring that their sacrifices will not be forgotten by future generations. As tensions continue, the courage and dedication exhibited by soldiers like Constable Ravinder Singh serve as a beacon of hope and resilience for the nation.
