In a tragic yet heroic incident, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan made the ultimate sacrifice during an intense anti-Maoist operation in the Usur region of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. This operation, conducted on May 22, 2025, culminated in a fierce encounter between security forces and Naxalites, leading to the martyrdom of Constable Solanki Mehul Bhai Nandalal from the CRPF’s elite 210 CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) battalion.
The skirmish occurred as part of a broader anti-Maoist campaign in the conflict-ridden Bastar division, an area known for its insurgency problems. Official reports reveal that Constable Solanki displayed unparalleled bravery and determination while facing the insurgents, ultimately sacrificing his life in the line of duty. His courage was acknowledged by the CRPF, which emphasized that his sacrifice exemplifies the force’s unwavering commitment to protect the nation and its people.
A spokesperson for the CRPF stated, “Constable Solanki Mehul Bhai Nandalal’s indomitable spirit and dedication to the motherland will forever inspire us. We stand firmly with his family during this time of grief and pledge our continued support.”
The Usur region, located within the dense forests of Bijapur, has long served as a stronghold for Maoist insurgents, particularly the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the military arm of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). In response, security forces have intensified operations in the region to dismantle Maoist networks, achieving significant successes in recent months. Notably, in January 2025, a joint team from CoBRA battalions 201, 204, and 210 successfully captured an advanced Maoist training camp in Bhattiguda village, approximately 420 km south of Raipur.
The larger anti-Maoist campaign in Chhattisgarh has shown promising progress in recent years. In the first four months of 2024, security forces neutralized 91 Maoists across the state, including high-ranking members, indicating a decline in Maoist violence. However, districts like Bijapur continue to pose challenges due to their rugged terrain and the presence of entrenched operatives. A recent operation in early May 2025 saw security forces reclaim two strategic hills in Bastar, aiming to advance toward the Maoist-dominated Karegutta hills in Bijapur, marking a decisive move against the insurgency.
Constable Solanki’s sacrifice shines a spotlight on the high stakes involved in these operations and the valor of India’s security forces as they confront internal threats. His martyrdom has renewed calls for peace and development in the Bastar region, a place scarred by decades of conflict. The CRPF and other security forces remain resolute in their mission, vowing to honor their fallen hero by continuing their fight for a safer and more secure nation.
