GST Day 2026
India celebrated GST Day on 1 July 2026, marking nine years since the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017. Introduced with the vision of “One Nation, One Tax,” GST unified several Central and State indirect taxes into a single tax system, making taxation more transparent, efficient, and business-friendly.

GST 2.0 Reforms
The GST 2.0 reforms, approved during the 56th GST Council Meeting, came into effect on 22 September 2025. These reforms were designed to simplify the tax structure, reduce compliance burdens, and support businesses as well as consumers.

Maharashtra Gets Approval for India’s First Offshore Airport
Maharashtra has received in-principle approval to develop India’s first offshore airport, marking a significant advancement in the country’s aviation infrastructure.
The proposal, presented by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), received approval from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The airport is planned off the coast of Palghar district and is expected to improve air connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) while addressing the growing demand for airport capacity.
What is an Offshore Airport?
An offshore airport is constructed entirely over the sea, either on an artificial island or specially designed offshore platforms. Such airports provide an effective solution for coastal cities where land availability is limited.

VB-G RAM (Gramin) Act, 2025 Comes into Force
The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM (Gramin)] Act, 2025 came into force on 1 July 2026, introducing a strengthened framework for rural employment and livelihood security.

The Ministry of Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India Pvt. Ltd. to promote India’s tourism destinations through digital technologies.
