World Vegan Day 2025
World Vegan Day 2025 will be celebrated on November 1, marking the beginning of World Vegan Month. The day is observed globally to promote a vegan lifestyle — one that avoids all forms of animal exploitation, whether in food, clothing, cosmetics, or other daily essentials.
The theme for World Vegan Day 2025 is expected to emphasize “Veganism and its Positive Impact on the Planet, Animals, and Human Health.”
The first World Vegan Day was observed in 1994, introduced by Louise Wallis, who was then the Chairperson of the Vegan Society (UK). It was established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the society’s founding by Donald Watson in 1944.
Interestingly, the term “vegan” was coined by taking the first and last letters of the word “vegetarian”, symbolizing the beginning and end of vegetarianism — representing a complete transition to a lifestyle free from animal-derived products.
World Cities Day 2025
Every year on October 31, the world observes World Cities Day to draw attention to the challenges and opportunities of urbanization while promoting sustainable and inclusive urban growth.
The observance also concludes Urban October, a month-long campaign by UN-Habitat to encourage global engagement in building better cities.
World Cities Day was first celebrated in 2014, following the UN General Assembly Resolution 68/239. The theme for 2025 is “People-Centred Smart Cities.”
The United Nations officially designated October 31 as World Cities Day in 2013, aiming to strengthen international collaboration for sustainable urban development and ensure cities are resilient, inclusive, and prosperous for all.
