World Teachers’ Day 2026
- World Teachers’ Day is observed each year on October 5 to pay tribute to the contributions made by teachers to education as well as to the working environment of teachers.
- For 2026, the day observes 60 years of the adoption of the ILO-UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers in 1966, with the theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.
- October 5 was chosen for the observance of the adoption of the 1966 Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This recommendation was adopted on October 5, 1966, in an intergovernmental conference called by UNESCO in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO).

- The United Nations General Assembly declared World Habitat Day in 1985, and its first observance took place in 1986.

Asian Games 2026
- India finished their Asian Games 2026 with a 4th place performance after achieving an impressive medal haul on the 15th day. The team managed to secure 85 medals, including 21 gold medals, 27 silver medals, and 37 bronze medals, and thereby overtook Uzbekistan who managed to win 21 gold medals but fewer silver medals than India.

19th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas Convention
- The 19th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) Convention is scheduled to take place in Kolkata, West Bengal, during January 7 to 9, 2027. The three-day convention will be hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) along with the West Bengal Government.
- The convention will see the participation of members of the Indian diaspora community as well as other stakeholders from all around the world.

- Every year Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) is celebrated on January 9 as it is the anniversary of the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on January 9, 1915.
- It is also the day which marks the engagement of India with its overseas Indian community. PBD Convention is a forum to interact with the Government of India, state governments and members of the Indian diaspora. First PBD Convention was celebrated in 2003.
Project Cheetah Reaches 60 Cheetahs at Kuno National Park
- Five cheetah cubs were born at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on 5 October 2026 to KJP21, an India-born female cheetah. The birth raised India’s cheetah population to 60, including 41 cheetahs born on Indian soil.
- Project Cheetah began on 17 September 2022 with the arrival of eight cheetahs from Namibia. India later received 12 cheetahs from South Africa in February 2023 and nine cheetahs from Botswana in February 2026. The project is the first intercontinental translocation of a large carnivore into India.
- Kuno National Park is located in Madhya Pradesh and serves as the main site for cheetah reintroduction in India. Of the 60 cheetahs in India, 53 are in Kuno National Park and three are in Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Kuno also recorded earlier births in 2026, including five cubs born to Namibian cheetah Jwala in March 2026.
- The latest litter introduced the Botswanan genetic lineage in India because the father is a male cheetah from Botswana.
- In September 2026, India-born female cheetah KGP12 gave birth to four cubs at Kuno National Park, taking the population to 56. In April 2026, an earlier litter of four cubs born to KGP12 did not survive after a leopard attack.
