- Railway buildings equipped with rooftop solar systems: 12,495
- Completion rate: 79%
- Installed solar capacity: 351 MW
- Target deadline for solarization: March 2027
The Ministry has committed to installing rooftop solar systems in all remaining feasible railway buildings by March 2027. According to the figures in the presentation, approximately 3,373 identified buildings are yet to be solarized, while another 73 MW of rooftop solar capacity needs to be commissioned to achieve the stated target of 424 MW.
National Progress Under the Scheme
Across the country, 77 Central Ministries and Departments have identified 39,135 buildings as suitable for rooftop solar installations. Out of these, 25,984 buildings have been equipped with solar systems, representing approximately 66% of the identified buildings.

Filipino Engineer Aldrei Ong Wins James Dyson Global Sustainability Award 2026
Filipino structural engineer Aldrei Ong has won the 2026 James Dyson Global Sustainability Award for developing an innovative structural monitoring device called Sentinel.
The award was announced on 4 November 2026. Ong, a graduate of De La Salle University in the Philippines, received £30,000 to support the further development of his invention.
What Is Sentinel?
Sentinel is a sensor designed to identify hidden structural damage in buildings, particularly damage that may occur following earthquakes.
The innovation transforms an ordinary concrete spacer block, traditionally used to maintain the position of reinforcing steel during construction, into a structural health-monitoring device.
Working Principle
The technology uses self-sensing concrete containing electrically conductive materials. When cracks or internal damage develop within the concrete, its electrical resistance changes.
By detecting these variations, Sentinel can help identify structural problems that may not be visible during ordinary inspections.
Significance
The invention offers a potential approach to improving building safety by enabling early detection of internal damage. It may be particularly useful in earthquake-prone regions, where identifying structural weaknesses is essential for protecting buildings and their occupants.

Bay of Bengal Countries Launch BOB-NOR Fisheries Research Network
India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives jointly launched the Bay of Bengal Network of Ocean Researchers for Fisheries (BOB-NOR) on 5 November 2026 in Kochi, Kerala.
The initiative aims to strengthen scientific collaboration among countries bordering the Bay of Bengal, encourage sustainable fisheries management and address the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems.
Launch and Organisation
The network was launched during an international meeting at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi. The meeting was organised alongside an international symposium focusing on fisheries and remote sensing.
Major Objectives and Activities
BOB-NOR will bring together marine scientists, oceanographers and fisheries researchers to study the relationship between ocean conditions and fish populations, including their migration patterns.
Researchers will combine information from different sources, including:
- Satellite observations
- Oceanographic surveys
- Fisheries-related data
- Sea surface temperature measurements
- Salinity and monsoon patterns
- Ocean currents and marine productivity
These studies will help improve understanding of changing marine conditions and their influence on fish resources.
Significance
The network is expected to promote regional scientific cooperation and support better fisheries management. It will also help participating countries develop a shared understanding of climate-related challenges affecting marine ecosystems in the Bay of Bengal.
