BRO Builds World’s Highest Road at 19,400 Feet
In a record-breaking engineering feat, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed the world’s highest motorable road at an altitude of 19,400 feet in Ladakh. The new road, built under Project Himank, runs through the Mig La Pass, surpassing BRO’s own previous record set at Umling La (19,024 ft) in 2021.
Part of the Likaru–Mig La–Fukche alignment, this road holds immense importance for both national security and tourism. Strategically, it provides a third critical route to Fukche, a forward area near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, enhancing connectivity to remote military zones and strengthening India’s border infrastructure.
Cyclone Shakti: A New Weather Challenge
Formed in October 2025 over the Arabian Sea, Cyclone Shakti symbolizes the increasing frequency of powerful tropical storms along India’s west coast. Although it is unlikely to make landfall, the cyclone has prompted high alerts in Maharashtra and Gujarat, highlighting the growing impact of climate change on the region’s weather systems.
Cyclone Shakti emerged through a typical tropical cyclogenesis process, fueled by sea surface temperatures above 27°C. The storm was named “Shakti” (meaning power or energy), a name suggested by Sri Lanka under the WMO/ESCAP panel’s naming convention.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Shakti falls under the “Severe Cyclonic Storm” category, with wind speeds ranging between 89–117 km/h. Its development underscores the need for advanced disaster preparedness and environmental planning in coastal regions.

India Receives ISSA Award for Expanding Social Security
At the World Social Security Forum (WSSF) 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted India’s remarkable progress in widening social security coverage. Over the last decade, the coverage has grown from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, reaching over 940 million citizens.
This outstanding achievement was recognized with the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Award 2025 for Outstanding Achievement in Social Security. The award ceremony saw participation from more than 1,200 delegates representing 163 countries.
