Satwik-Chirag Win China Masters 2026
Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty captured the China Masters Super 750 title 2026 after a remarkable comeback victory in Shenzhen.
The World No. 5 Indian men’s doubles pair defeated China’s He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu in the final with a score of 11–21, 21–13, 21–17. The contest lasted around one hour and ten minutes.
This victory marks the duo’s second major title of 2026. Earlier, they had reached the finals of the Singapore Open Super 750 and the Thailand Open Super 500.
The triumph was particularly significant because Satwik and Chirag had previously finished runners-up at the China Masters in 2023 and 2025. Their 2026 victory finally gave them the title they had narrowly missed in earlier editions.

Dinesh Sharma Appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma has been appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The appointment was announced through a Rashtrapati Bhavan notification on 5 September 2026. Sharma will assume office from the date on which he takes charge. He will succeed Admiral D. K. Joshi (Retd.).
Dinesh Sharma is 62 years old. His appointment comes shortly before his Rajya Sabha tenure is scheduled to end on 25 November 2026.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands hold considerable strategic importance because of their position in the Indian Ocean and proximity to important maritime shipping routes. The Union Territory is significant for India’s national security, maritime interests, connectivity and tourism.
As Lieutenant Governor, Sharma will be responsible for overseeing the administration and functioning of the Union Territory.

Rangpur-Sivasagar Historical Ensemble Added to UNESCO Tentative List
The Rangpur-Sivasagar Historical Ensemble of Assam has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
The historical complex represents the architectural, cultural and technological achievements of the Ahom dynasty, which ruled the Upper Brahmaputra Valley for nearly six centuries. India submitted the nomination in June 2026.
Unlike a single monument, the ensemble consists of a wider historical landscape containing palaces, temples, large water tanks, roads, bridges, fortifications and ceremonial structures. UNESCO has evaluated the property under Criteria (iii) and (iv).
The complex is located in Sivasagar district, approximately 360 km northeast of Guwahati, and mainly incorporates the historically connected areas of Rangpur and Sivasagar.
Rangpur, also known as Che Muan or “the city of amusement,” was established as a planned capital by Ahom ruler Swargadeo Rudra Singha in 1704.
The Ahom dynasty was established in Assam during the 13th century and remained a major regional power for around 600 years. Its political dominance ended following the Treaty of Yandabo in 1826.
What is a UNESCO Tentative List?
Being placed on the Tentative List does not mean that a property has already become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an important preparatory stage in the World Heritage nomination process.

India Clarifies Its Position on UN Map Resolution and Kashmir
India has clarified its position regarding a United Nations resolution concerning global map representation.
New Delhi supported the resolution because of its emphasis on improving the accuracy of world maps, particularly through the use of equal-area map projections. However, India clarified that its support was limited to the cartographic principle involved.
The resolution, introduced by Togo, is titled:
“Correct the Map: Rebalancing Global Cartographic Representation and Promotion of Equitable Representation of the World’s Regions, Particularly Africa.”

Amit Shah Launches Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 Roadmap
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 Roadmap in Panaji, Goa, on 6 September 2026.
The roadmap was introduced following a state security and narcotics review meeting with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. It establishes a national framework for tackling drug trafficking and reducing substance abuse during the period 2026–2029.
The programme has set several measurable targets, including:
- Dismantling 100 international and inter-state drug networks
- Bringing back 100 narcotics-related fugitives
- Destroying 100 clandestine drug laboratories
- Expanding awareness and prevention efforts
The roadmap is based on four major pillars:
- Intelligence and operation-based enforcement
- Precursor and synthetic drug control
- Demand and harm reduction
- Capacity building and coordination
The strategy also adopts a zero-tolerance approach along borders and uses both Bottom-to-Top and Top-to-Bottom investigation models. These approaches are designed to trace drug networks from street-level distribution to major trafficking and financial networks.
The campaign aims to reach 50 crore citizens and establish a network of one lakh Nasha Mukt Mitras. Youth-oriented platforms including the NCC, NSS and MY Bharat are part of the outreach framework.

Kimi Antonelli Wins Italian Grand Prix 2026
Italian Formula 1 driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on 6 September 2026 for Mercedes.
The victory was historic as Antonelli became the first Italian driver in 60 years to win his home Italian Grand Prix. The previous Italian driver to achieve this feat was Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966. Antonelli was 20 years old when he secured the victory.
The race was held at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Lombardy, Italy. Monza is among Formula 1’s oldest and fastest circuits and is popularly known as the “Temple of Speed” because of its long straights and high average speeds.
Antonelli started the race from 19th position after receiving a penalty related to power-unit changes. Nevertheless, he completed a remarkable recovery and finished 3.857 seconds ahead of George Russell. Max Verstappen secured third place.
Following the Monza victory, Antonelli’s championship tally increased to 267 points, giving him a 66-point lead over George Russell.
