72nd National Film Awards 2026 to Be Held in Gujarat

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony will be held on 22 September 2026 at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The venue is located near the Statue of Unity, marking a significant departure from the event’s long association with New Delhi.

President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards at the ceremony.

A Break from Tradition

Although the National Film Awards have generally been associated with New Delhi, the 17th National Film Awards were held at the University Centenary Auditorium in Madras, now Chennai, on 21 November 1970. The 2026 ceremony therefore represents an important change in the traditional venue.

Major Winners

The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were selected for films released during 2024, with the winners announced by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in July.

Some important winners include:

  • Best Feature Film: Article 370

  • Best Non-Feature Film: Bhangaar
  • Best Documentary: Ram-Nami
  • Best New Director: Randeep Hooda for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar

Measures Taken by Lucknow

Some of the initiatives highlighted for Lucknow include:

  • Greater use of electric vehicles for waste collection
  • Deployment of mechanised road sweepers to control dust
