International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of Genocide Victims
Observed annually on December 9, the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide serves as a powerful reminder of humanity’s responsibility to prevent atrocities. The day honours the countless lives lost to genocide and reinforces the global commitment to justice, human rights, and early preventive action.
The year 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of this UN-designated observance, encouraging nations to reflect on their progress in preventing genocidal crimes. It also highlights the importance of strengthening global institutions, promoting accountability, and ensuring that the dignity of victims is always upheld through education, awareness, and legal safeguards.
International Anti-Corruption Day 2025
December 9 also marks International Anti-Corruption Day, an annual global campaign led by the United Nations to spotlight the corrosive effects of corruption on governance, development, and public trust.
The theme for 2025—“Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity”—places young people at the forefront of change. The UN emphasizes that empowering youth through education, transparency, and civic participation is essential for building corruption-free societies.
First established in 2003 following the adoption of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), this day underscores a worldwide commitment to integrity and accountability.

World’s Youngest FIDE-Rated Chess Player: India’s Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha
India celebrated a proud moment in December 2025 when 3-year-old Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha from Madhya Pradesh became the youngest officially rated chess player recognised by FIDE. At 3 years, 7 months, and 20 days, he earned a rapid rating of 1572, well above the minimum threshold of 1400.
Sarwagya’s exceptional memory, cognitive abilities, and early exposure to chess helped him achieve this rare milestone. Born in 2022 in Sagar district, his talent became evident when he quickly learned the names and movements of all chess pieces shortly after being introduced to the game. His accomplishment reinforces India’s growing prominence in the global chess arena, following a decade of rising young prodigies.

DHRUVA: India’s Next Digital Revolution in Addressing
India is poised for a major transformation in address verification and digital identity through the introduction of DHRUVA – Digital Hub for Reference and Unique Virtual Address. Developed by the Department of Posts, this initiative aims to create a fully digitised address ecosystem.
DHRUVA will function as an “Address as a Service (AaaS)” platform, offering secure, verified, and interoperable address data for both government and private-sector services. At its core are Digital Address Identifiers (DAI)—unique digital codes linked to physical addresses.
The system is designed to improve service delivery, streamline logistics, enhance e-commerce efficiency, and support governance in fields such as:
- Logistics and transport
- Online shopping and deliveries
- Financial services
- Public welfare and targeted schemes
As India continues expanding its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), DHRUVA is expected to become a cornerstone in creating smarter, more reliable urban and rural address systems.
