New Natural Gas Discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert
Egypt’s Western Desert has once again proven to be a promising region for energy exploration. The country’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources recently announced a new natural gas discovery in the Badr-15 field, marking another success in Egypt’s hydrocarbon sector.
Initial production has already commenced, yielding approximately 16 million cubic feet of gas per day (mcf/d), with an estimated 15 billion cubic feet (bcf) expected to be added to national reserves.
This discovery aligns with Egypt’s strategy to boost domestic energy output, reduce reliance on imports, and reinforce its position as a regional energy hub. The Western Desert continues to offer potential for new onshore finds due to its favorable geological conditions and unexplored reserves.
World Radiography Day 2025
World Radiography Day, celebrated on November 8, honors the groundbreaking discovery of X-rays and the vital contributions of radiologists and radiographers to global healthcare.
The observance marks the 1895 discovery of X-rays by Professor Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen and emphasizes the transformative role of medical imaging—from traditional X-rays to AI-based diagnostic systems—in early disease detection, precise diagnosis, and improved treatment outcomes for millions of patients worldwide.
National Legal Services Day
India celebrates National Legal Services Day every year on November 9, underscoring the country’s commitment to ensuring equal access to justice for all.
The observance stems from the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, which led to the creation of Legal Services Authorities at various administrative levels. Implemented from November 9, 1995, the initiative aims to provide free legal aid and raise awareness among citizens about their legal rights and entitlements.
India Prepares for 2026 All India Tiger Estimation (AITE)
India is gearing up for the 2026 All India Tiger Estimation (AITE)—the world’s largest and most advanced wildlife survey. Home to over 75% of the planet’s wild tiger population, India’s upcoming census seeks to integrate cutting-edge technology with traditional fieldwork to set new global standards in conservation monitoring.
The 2022 census recorded 3,682 tigers, and the next survey will cover more than 400,000 sq km across 20+ states, involving over 60,000 forest personnel. The AITE not only focuses on tiger counts but also examines habitat conditions, prey base, and ecological trends.
China Commissions Third Aircraft Carrier ‘Fujian’
China has commissioned its third aircraft carrier, Fujian, marking a major milestone in the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
Launched at Sanya Port, Hainan Province, the 80,000-tonne vessel is the first Chinese flat-deck carrier equipped with the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS)—similar to U.S. carriers—allowing aircraft to launch with full payloads.
Fujian’s advanced systems, including electromagnetic arresting gear and all-electric propulsion, enhance China’s long-range strike capabilities and place it among the most technologically advanced warships globally.
Karnataka Introduces Paid Menstrual Leave
In a landmark initiative promoting gender equity and workplace inclusivity, Karnataka has become the first Indian state to approve 12 days of paid menstrual leave annually for women employees.
The policy extends to both government and private sector workers, granting one paid leave day per month to address menstrual discomfort. The measure underscores Karnataka’s commitment to women’s health, dignity, and productivity in the workforce.
U.S. Conducts Minuteman III ICBM Test
On November 5, 2025, the United States Air Force successfully launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)—designated GT-254—from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
The test validated the readiness and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent’s land-based component. The missile’s re-entry vehicle reached its target in the central Pacific near the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site (Kwajalein Atoll), demonstrating operational precision and deterrence capabilities.
Pakistan’s Controversial 27th Constitutional Amendment
Political tensions have escalated in Pakistan as the government introduces the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, raising concerns about civil-military imbalance.
Proposed in the Senate on November 8, 2025, the bill seeks significant alterations to the judiciary, fiscal powers of provinces, and the military command structure.
Critics argue that the amendment would centralize authority under the army chief, General Asim Munir, granting him extended powers, including:
- A fixed five-year tenure equivalent to that of the President or Prime Minister.
- Exclusive authority to appoint military and intelligence heads.
- Legal immunity from political or judicial scrutiny.
- Control over paramilitary and internal security forces, such as the Rangers and Frontier Corps.
Observers warn that these provisions could undermine democratic governance and institutional independence.
India Launches DRAP and UiWIN Initiatives
India has unveiled two major programs — the Dumpsite Remediation Accelerator Programme (DRAP) and the Urban Investment Window (UiWIN) — to tackle the country’s mounting legacy waste problem.
DRAP focuses on clearing 214 large landfill sites across 202 urban local bodies (ULBs), which together hold 8.8 crore tonnes of waste, accounting for nearly 80% of India’s dumpsite burden.
Meanwhile, UiWIN aims to attract private and international investment for sustainable urban infrastructure projects. Managed by HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation), the initiative represents a significant stride toward cleaner, greener, and more livable cities by 2026.
