Digvijay Diwas 2026
Digvijay Diwas is observed every year on 11 September to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893. His opening words, “Sisters and Brothers of America,” became one of the most memorable moments of the event.
The Parliament of the World’s Religions was organised from 11 September to 27 September 1893 and brought together representatives of different religions and denominations. National Forest Martyrs Day 2026
National Forest Martyrs Day is observed on 11 September to honour forest personnel who have lost their lives while protecting India’s forests and wildlife. The day is also associated with the historic Khejarli sacrifice of 1730, when members of Rajasthan’s Bishnoi community resisted the cutting of Khejri trees.
The Khejarli Sacrifice
The historic incident took place in Khejarli village in Rajasthan in 1730. Officials of the Jodhpur Kingdom arrived in the village to cut Khejri trees. Members of the Bishnoi community opposed the tree felling and stood in defence of the environment.
The movement was led by Amrita Devi Bishnoi, who became an enduring symbol of environmental protection. According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, more than 360 people lost their lives during the episode.
Modern Significance
The day also pays tribute to forest guards, officers and other forest personnel who face serious risks while protecting forests and wildlife from activities such as illegal tree felling and poaching.
The Khejarli episode is remembered as an important example of community-led environmental conservation in India.

Gujarat Allocates ₹301 Crore for 2030 Commonwealth Games
The Gujarat government has allocated ₹301 crore towards preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The announcement was made during the state’s monsoon session on 10 September 2026. Gujarat has secured the hosting rights and signed a Host Collaboration Agreement for the event.
Allocation Details
Out of the total ₹301 crore allocation, ₹200 crore has been earmarked as the host fee, which has already been paid under the collaboration agreement.
The remaining allocation consists of ₹100 crore under the revenue head from the previous financial year and ₹1 crore as a token capital provision.
Ahmedabad as Main Hub

To support preparations, the Amdavad 2030 Commonwealth Games Organisation was incorporated under the Companies Act on 12 August 2026.
