Oman Joins UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Council
Oman has achieved a significant milestone by being elected as a member of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Council for the term 2025–2029. The election took place during the 43rd UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand.
This membership highlights Oman’s commitment to sustainability, environmental conservation, and fostering balance between people and nature.
The MAB Programme, initiated by UNESCO in 1971, is an international scientific effort aimed at improving the relationship between humans and their environment through research, conservation, and sustainable management of natural resources.
Key Objectives of the MAB Programme:
- Promote biodiversity conservation
- Encourage sustainable use of ecosystems
- Foster harmony between human societies and nature
