Disarmament Week 2025 (24–30 October)
Every year, the United Nations observes Disarmament Week from 24th to 30th October, coinciding with the UN’s founding anniversary. The week serves to raise global awareness about the importance of disarmament and arms control in maintaining international peace, security, and sustainable development.
The observance was initially proposed in the Final Document of the 1978 UN General Assembly’s Special Session on Disarmament (Resolution S-10/2). Later, through Resolution 50/72 B (1995), the UN General Assembly encouraged active participation from governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to mark the event annually.
Disarmament has remained a core objective of the UN since its establishment in 1945, aiming to reduce weapon stockpiles and foster trust and dialogue among nations instead of fear and military escalation.
Key Objectives of Disarmament Week:
- Promote global peace and stability
- Protect civilians and uphold human rights
- Build mutual trust among nations
- Encourage sustainable development through responsible resource use
Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2025
The Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2025 focuses on the theme “Minds Over AI: MIL in Digital Spaces.” The theme reflects how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the production, distribution, and consumption of information globally.
As AI algorithms increasingly influence news feeds, search results, and content generation, media literacy has become crucial. The theme underscores that human intelligence, ethics, and judgment must always guide technology—not the reverse.
Media and Information Literacy (MIL) is the ability to access, evaluate, use, and create information responsibly across all forms of media — print, broadcast, and digital.
MIL encourages individuals to ask:
- How reliable is this information?
- What are my rights and duties in the digital world?
- How can I use and share information ethically?
By developing these critical skills, people can navigate the digital world responsibly and contribute positively to online spaces.

Jammu & Kashmir Revives the 150-Year-Old ‘Darbar Move’ Tradition
The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to restore the historic “Darbar Move” tradition, which had been discontinued four years ago. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced the revival, fulfilling a significant administrative promise.
The Darbar Move is a biannual transfer of government offices between Srinagar (summer capital) and Jammu (winter capital). It was initiated in 1872 by Maharaja Gulab Singh, the first Dogra ruler, to ensure smooth governance during the harsh winter months when access to the Kashmir Valley was difficult.
This restoration aims to preserve cultural heritage while maintaining administrative efficiency across both regions.
Bajrang Setu: India’s First Glass Suspension Bridge in Rishikesh
A major engineering and tourism milestone is taking shape in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, with the nearing completion of Bajrang Setu — India’s first glass suspension bridge. Scheduled to open by December 2025, it will stand as a modern replacement for the historic Laxman Jhula, which was closed in 2019 due to structural weakness.
Bajrang Setu – Key Highlights:
- Length: 132 meters
- Width: 8 meters
- Estimated Cost: ₹60 crore
- Location: Downstream of the old Laxman Jhula
The Laxman Jhula, built in 1929, was a century-old symbol of spirituality and adventure tourism in Rishikesh. Bajrang Setu aims to continue that legacy with enhanced safety standards and a world-class design that promises to become a new landmark for pilgrims and travelers alike.
