Government Launches ₹7,280 Crore Scheme to Boost REPM Manufacturing
The Union Cabinet has approved a landmark ₹7,280 crore scheme dedicated to promoting the domestic production of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets (REPMs). This is India’s first comprehensive effort to build a full-scale REPM manufacturing framework within the country.
Rare Earth Permanent Magnets are essential components used in several strategic and emerging sectors, including:
- Electric mobility
- Renewable energy systems such as wind turbines
- Aerospace and defence
- Automation and industrial machinery
- Consumer electronics
The scheme aims to establish a capacity of 6,000 Metric Tons Per Annum and develop the entire value chain—from rare earth oxide conversion to alloy development and final magnet fabrication. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce import dependence and support India’s long-term goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.
India Inaugurates First Global Aircraft Engine MRO Facility
On 26 November 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first world-class aircraft engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Hyderabad. Built by French aerospace leader Safran, the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) campus marks a turning point in India’s aviation capabilities.
Indian airlines currently send nearly 85% of their MRO requirements abroad, resulting in major foreign exchange outflows and longer aircraft downtime. The establishment of SAESI will help India:
- Retain billions in foreign exchange
- Reduce maintenance timelines
- Strengthen aviation supply chains
- Become a competitive global MRO provider
The new facility also supports the government’s vision of making India a global aviation hub.
