“India Rankings 2020” for Higher Educational Institutions

  • Union HRD Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal released “India Rankings 2020” in various categories based on their performance on five broad categories of parameters.
  • Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR).
  • National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs), under the aegis of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers makes its place in top ten Institutions of Higher Education in pharma category.

Centre approves funding of Jal Jeevan Mission in Maharashtra

  • It aims to provide tap water supply to all rural households by 2024.
  • The state has also planned for retrofitting of existing 8,268 piped water supply schemes.
  • The programme will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rainwater harvesting.

India’s First Double Stack Container Train in Electrified Sections

  • Indian Railways created a new world record by successfully running first Double Stack Container Train in high rise Over Head Equipment (OHE) electrified sections.
  •  Will also boost the ambitious mission of GREEN INDIA.
  • Commenced from Palanpur and Botad stations in Gujarat.

Third Phase of SAUNI Yojana Launched

  • Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Launched by the Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani.
  • The scheme is to fill 115 dams with Narmada water by August 15, 2020 & March 2021.
  • The SAUNI Yojana was launched to divert the excess overflowing flood waters of Narmada that were allocated to Saurashtra region.
  • The first phase of SAUNI yojana was inaugurated in 2016 by Prime Minister Modi in Gujarat at Aji-3 dam.
  • The second phase of the scheme included 541 kms of pipeline works to fill 57 reservoirs is set to finish by August ,2020.
  • Narmada– Originates from Amarkantak plateau.

World Day Against Child Labour – 12 June 2020

  • Theme-COVID-19: Protect children from child labour, now more than ever!
  •  This year will focus on the impact of crisis on child labour. Particularly due to the COVID-19.
  •  Virtual campaign is being organized jointly with the Global March Against Child Labour and the International Partnership for Cooperation on Child Labour in Agriculture (IPCCLA).

State-of-the-art Flood Warning System for Mumbai Launched

  • iFLOWS- Mumbai an Integrated Flood Warning System for Mumbai has been launched through VC jointly by CM of Maharashtra & Union Earth Sciences Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today.
  • The system will help make the city become more resilient, by providing early warning for flooding especially during high rainfall events and cyclones.
  • Using this, it will be possible to have an estimate of the flood inundation 3 days in advance, along with 3 hours – 6 hours Nowcast.
  • It will be extremely useful, especially if people need to be evacuated from low-lying areas as we will be able to forecast 12 hours in advance that a spot may get flooded.  
  • The system will also forecast the rainfall in each pocket.
  • I-FLOWS is built on a modular structure and comprises seven modules.
  • The Data Assimilation Module gathers a variety of dynamic data including IMD weather forecasts and under-water depth of rivers and lakes across Mumbai city.
  • The Inundation Module will use the data to forecast flood inundation 3 days in advance.
  • The Flood Module will predict how the water will move across areas expected to be flooded.
  • The Vulnerability and Risk Modules, which together comprise the Decision Support System, enables the administration to take smart decisions to manage
  • the situation based on a scientific and holistic assessment of flooding risks.

Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Ministry launches Sahakar Mitra: Scheme on Internship Programme

  • Launched by Union Min. Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • The National Cooperative Development Corporation has embarked upon a series of initiatives in the cooperative sector entrepreneurship devpt. ecosystem through capacity devpt., paid internship to youth & assured project loans on liberalized terms to young cooperators on start-up mode.
  • Scheme on Internship Programme (SIP) will provide the young professionals an opportunity of practical exposure and learning from the working of NCDC and cooperatives as a paid intern.
  • NCDC also introduced a complementary scheme to promote start-up cooperative ventures.
  • Sahakar Mitra would also provide an opportunity to professionals from academic institutions to develop leadership and entrepreneurial roles through cooperatives as Farmers Producers Organizations.
  • Will assist cooperative institutions access new and innovative ideas of young professionals while the interns gain experience of working in the field.

Recommendations of 40th GST council related to Law & Procedure

  • The 40th GST Council meet Chaired by FM Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman through VC.
  • The meeting was also attended by Minister of State Shri Anurag Thakur.
  • The GST Council has made the following recommendations on Law & Procedures changes:
    • Reduction in Late Fee for past Returns.
    • Relief for small taxpayers for late filing of returns for February, March & April 2020 Tax periods.
    • Relief for small taxpayers for subsequent tax periods (May, June & July 2020).
    • One-time extension in period for seeking revocation of cancellation of registration.

NHAI becomes first construction sector organisation to go ‘Fully Digital’

  • As one of the biggest reforms, NHAI under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has gone ‘Fully Digital’, with the launch of unique cloud based and AI powered Big Data Analytics platform – Data Lake and Project Management Software.
  • Complete project execution operations including ‘workflow with timeline’ and ‘alert mechanism’ have been configured.
  • All project documentation, contractual decisions and approvals are now being done through portal only.
  • With advance analytics, software will forecast the delays, likely disputes & will give advance alerts.
  • The complete project documents and correspondences will be stored in Digital format in the cloud-based ‘Data Lake’ linked with GIS tagging and Unique Project ID, so that the project data can be easily retrieved as and when required from any location.
  • NHAI’s all contractors/ concessionaires/consultants/Authority Engineers (AE)/ Independent Engineers (IE) and Project Directors (PDs)/ Regional Officers (ROs) have already started using it extensively.
  • NHAI’s e-Office module is also integrated in the system so that all correspondences can flow digitally in a secured manner from field units to HQ seamlessly.
  • In the current Covid-19 pandemic scenario, when most of the organizations are facing serious challenges in working, NHAI employees are continuing their works undeterred and happily without any fear of physical contacts and touching of physical files.  Rather, lockdown period was used by NHAI to train its employees about using Data Lake.
