What are the key features of Ayushman Bharat?
- Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
- Implemented by: National Health Authority.
- Launched: September 2018
- Vision: To achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
- It is essentially a health insurance scheme to cater to the poor, lower section of the society and the vulnerable population.
- It provides a cover of 5 lakh per family per year for medical treatment in empanelled hospitals, both public and private.
- Using criteria from the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 to determine eligibility for benefits.
- There is no restriction on the family size, age or gender.
- Offers cashless payment and paperless recordkeeping through the hospital or doctor’s office
- The scheme is portable, and a beneficiary can avail medical treatment anywhere in the country.
Hindu women’s inheritance rights
- Supreme Court ruled that a Hindu woman’s right to be a joint legal heir and inherit ancestral property on terms equal to male heirs.
- It does not depend on whether her father was alive or not when the law was enacted in 2005.
- Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005: The Hindu Succession Act 1956 was amended in September 2005 and women were recognized as coparceners (joint legal heir) for property partitions arising from 2005.
- While the 2005 law granted equal rights to women, questions were raised in multiple cases on whether the law applied retrospectively, and if the rights of women depended on the living status of the father.
Sputnik V
- Russia became the First country to officially register a Covid-19 vaccine.
- It has decided to name its first COVID 19 vaccine as ‘Sputnik V’.
- The vaccine has been called Sputnik V, named after the first artificial Earth satellite, Sputnik-I launched by the Soviet Union.
- It is developed by Gamaleya Institute and Defence Ministry of Russia.
- Russia has also stated that around 20 countries have already pre-booked one billion doses of COVID 19 vaccine for the patients in their countries.
PM to launch “Transparent Taxation – Honoring the Honest”
- The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch the next set of direct tax reforms.
- The government has announced a ‘Taxpayer Charter’ in the Union Budget 2020-21 that would have the statutory status.
- It was aimed at empowering citizens by ensuring time-bound services by the Income Tax Department of the country.
- Background:
- The CBDT has carried out several major tax reforms in direct taxes in the recent years.
- Last year the Corporate Tax rates were reduced from 30% to 22% and for new manufacturing units the rates were reduced to 15%.
- Dividend distribution Tax was also abolished.
- With a view to provide for resolution of pending tax disputes the IT Department also brought out the Direct Tax “Vivad se Vishwas Act, 2020”
- Under which declarations for settling disputes are being filed currently.
Medal for Excellence in Investigation, 2020
- The “Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation” for the year 2020 have been awarded to 121 Police personnel.
- It included 21 women police officers.
- 15 are from CBI.
- And rest are from various states.
- This medal was constituted in 2018.
- Objective is to promote high professional standards of investigation of crime and to recognize such Excellence in Investigation by investigating officers.
- The names for these medals are finalized by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
International Youth Day
- Celebrated each year on August 12.
- In order to signify and highlight the importance of young people, the day is celebrated.
- Theme: ‘Youth Engagement for Global Action’
- IYD was first celebrated on August 12, 2000
- National Youth Day: It is observed on Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary on January 12 every year.
