What is Geneva Conventions?
- The Geneva Conventions and their additional Protocols are international treaties that are at the core of international humanitarian law.
- They contain the most important rules regulating the conduct of armed conflicts.
- The Geneva Conventions of 1949 comprise four treaties and three additional protocols that define the standards of international law for humanitarian treatment in war.
- The convention mandates the parties to the war to remain humane to non-combatants such as civilians and medical personnel, as well as to combatants who are no longer participating in hostilities, such as prisoners of war, or wounded in action.
- All countries are signatories to the Geneva Conventions.
Khelo India State Centre of Excellence
- Nine States and Union Territories have been selected by the Sports Ministry for upgradation to Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE).
- The States and UTs include Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Tripura and Jammu and Kashmir.
- The centres have been selected based on their past performances, quality of infrastructure, management and sports culture in the State.
- Earlier this year, the Sports Ministry had identified a total of 14 centres to be upgraded to Khelo India State Centre of Excellence. The overall number now stands at 24 KISCEs from 23 States and UTs.
- The assistance to these centres will be provided in the form of bridging the gaps in sports equipment, high performance managers, coaches, sports scientists and technical support.
Ayushman Sahakar Scheme
- Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Agriculture Minister on, launched AYUSHMAN SAHAKAR Scheme.
- The scheme has been launched to assist the cooperatives in the country.
- The scheme will assist the cooperatives to play a crucial role in creating health care infrastructure in the country.
- National Cooperative Development Corporation has created the AYUSMAN SAHAKAR scheme.
- The NCDC will provide loans of Rs 10,000 crores to the cooperatives under the scheme.
- The scheme will also strengthen welfare activities for farmers by the government.
- The scheme also provides 1% interest subvention to the cooperatives where women are in majority.
- The scheme is aligned with that of the National Health Policy, 2017.
- The scheme will use the funds to assist cooperative hospitals.
- It will also cover health insurance, medical, nursing education and paramedical education.
- Also, the scheme includes health systems such as AYUSH.

- The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, won a landslide victory in the country’s general election.
- She elected as the PM for the second consecutive three-year term.
- Jacinda Ardern’s Labour Party has won over 49 per cent votes in the general elections.
- At 26.9 percent of the votes, the National Party is in second place.
20 October: National Solidarity Day
- National solidarity day is observed on 20th October every year.
- It is the date on which China attacked India in 1962.
- 20th October 1962 the war began when people liberation army of China attacked India at the Himalayan borders in Ladakh and Arunachal simultaneously.
- There was a massive loss of life and property in this war.
- During these days, Indian people displayed a heart-warming solidarity, unity and team spirit.
- National Solidarity day is a reminder to all Indians of the significance of unity and integrity in protecting our nation.
- The celebration of World Statistics Day 2020 is a global collaborative endeavour, organized under the guidance of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
- The Statistics Division of the United Nations Department of Economic Affairs is the global coordinator of the campaign.
