What is National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP)?

  • National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP), 2016 is the first-ever national plan prepared in the country for disaster management.
  • It aims to make India disaster resilient and significantly reduce the loss of lives and assets.
  • The plan is based on the four priority themes of the “Sendai Framework,”
  • Understanding disaster risk
  • Improving disaster risk governance
  • Investing in disaster reduction (through structural and non-structural measures)
  • Disaster preparedness, early warning and building back better in the aftermath of a disaster.
  • It covers all phases of disaster management: prevention, mitigation, response and recovery.
  • It spells out roles and responsibilities of all levels of Government right up to Panchayat and Urban Local Body.

Swacch Survekshan 2020

  • Yesterday, the results of Swachh Survekshan, 2020 were announced.
  • Indore Creates Record by Winning Title of Cleanest City Fourth Time in a Row.
  • Surat and Navi Mumbai Secure Second and Third Position.
  • Best performing states in terms of overall performance were divided in two categories- states with over 100 Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and states with less than 100 ULBs.
  • In the first category, Chhattisgarh bagged the award for the second time and Jharkhand won the award in the second category.
  • India’s Cleanest Cantonment Board award was bagged by Jalandhar cantonment from Punjab.
  • Best Ganga Town award was given to Varanasi.
  • Total of 129 Awards Given.
  • 4,324 Urban ULBs Declared open defecation free (ODF) So Far.
  • 1,319 Cities Certified ODF+ and 489 Cities Certified ODF++.

India ranks First in number of Organic Farmers

  • In accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), India ranked first in number of organic farmers.
  • Along with 9th in terms of area under organic farming.
  • Initiatives by Government:
  • The Government initiated Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD),
  • Along with that Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) in 2015 to encourage chemical free farming.
  • Agri-export Policy 2018 has also given a major thrust in the field of Organic farming. The export from Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland to the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA) and Italy has increased due to demand for health foods. The major organic exports from India have been flax seeds, sesame, soybean, tea, medicinal plants, rice and pulses.
  • Quick and easy certification process of the Organic produce under Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) and National Program for Organic Production (NPOP)

Loans more than Rs 1 Lakh crore disbursed under ECLGS

  • The finance ministry declared, Public and Private Sector Banks have disbursed loans over Rs 1.5 lakh crore under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS).
  • Loan is for the MSME sector.
  • The top lenders under the Scheme are State Bank of India (SBI), Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of India, Union Bank of India and HDFC Bank Ltd.
  • Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme
  • It was launched to mitigate the distress caused by lockdown due to COVID-19 by providing credit to different sectors, especially MSMEs.
  • The ECLGS was announced by the Government as a part of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Package.
  • The 100% collateral free MSME loan are given.
  • The National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company provides this loan to Banks, Financial institutions, and to Non-banking financial Companies.

National Cancer Registry Programme Report 2020

  • Released by the Indian Council of Medical Research.
  • According to the report cancer cases in India are likely to increase to 15.6 lakhs by 2025, a 12% increase from the current estimated cases.
  • Key Findings:
  • 1.5 million people are going to suffer from non-communicable diseases by 2025.
  • Tobacco-related cancers are estimated to contribute 27.1% of the total cancer burden (highest in the northeastern region).
  • The Population-Based Cancer Registry of Delhi recorded the maximum proportion of childhood cancers.
  • A declining trend was seen in most of the registries for cancer of the cervix.
