Cabinet Secretary reviews COVID situation in 13 worst affected cities
- Cabinet Secretary held a meeting with Municipal Commissioners, District Magistrates of 13 COVID-19 hit cities to take a review of the situation.
- The meeting bears significance as these 13 cities are the worst Coronavirus affected locations and constitute about 70 per cent of the positive cases in the country.
- The 13 focus cities are Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi / New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Thane, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata / Howrah, Indore (MP), Jaipur, Jodhpur, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur (Tamil Nadu).
- Strategy include work on high risk factors, indices such as confirmation rate, fatality rate, doubling rate, tests per million people etc.
- Centre has stressed that containment zones are to be geographically defined based on factors like mapping of cases and contacts and their geographical dispersion.
- The cities were advised that the area should be appropriately defined by the district administration and local urban body with technical inputs from local level.
Delimitation Commission holds meeting
- The Delimitation Commission had a meeting on 28th May 2020, to review the progress of direction given by the Commission in its first meeting held on 29th April,2020.
- Nomination of Associate Members as required under Delimitation Act,2002,has been received from Lok Sabha.
- Also, Nomination of Associate Members from the Legislative Assembly of Assam and Manipur has been received.
- Delimitation Commission:
- The Delimitation commission or Boundary commission of India is a commission established by the Government of India under the provisions of the Delimitation Commission Act.
- The main task of the commission is redrawing the boundaries of the various assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies based on a recent census. The representation from each State is not changed during this exercise.
- The present delimitation of constituencies has been done based on 2001 census under the provisions of Delimitation Act, 2002.
Digital Summit on Exports organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry
- Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Railways, through VC, participated in the Summit.
- Identified three
important ways to increase India’s exports:
- reviving manufacturing
- diversifying the exports basket
- finding newer and more accepting markets
- Congratulated CII on completing 125 years and the launch of the Taskforce on Enhancing Exports through integration into the Global Value Chains.
Ultraviolet Disinfection Facilities Developed AT Western Naval Command
- Naval Dockyard (Mumbai) has manufactured a UV sanitisation bay to meet the emerging requirement.
- The UV bay will be utilised for decontamination of tools, clothes and other miscellaneous items, to control spread of the coronavirus.
- The challenging task required ingenuity to convert a large common room into a UV bay by fabrication of aluminum sheets electrical arrangements for UV-C lighting.
- The facility utilises UV-C light source for Germicidal Irradiation towards sterilising items. Studies by reputed research agencies have proven the effect of UV-C on respiratory pathogens like SARS, Influenza etc.
- It has been observed that microbial pathogens become significantly less viable when exposed to UV-C of intensity 1 J/cm2 for 1 min or more, indicating effective sterilisation.
- A similar facility has also been set up at Naval Station (Karanja), where in addition to UV-C steriliser, an industrial oven has also been placed, which heats smaller sized belongings to 60°C, a temperature known to kill most microbes.
FM launches facility of Instant PAN through Aadhaar based e-KYC
- Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman formally launched the facility for instant allotment of PAN.
- This facility is now available for those PAN applicants who possess a valid Aadhaar number and have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar.
- The allotment process is paperless and an electronic PAN (e-PAN) is issued to the applicants free of cost.
