Exercise CINBAX-II 2026

The Exercise CINBAX-II marks the second edition of the joint military training initiative between India and Cambodia. The Indian Army contingent has departed to participate in this exercise, scheduled from 4 to 17 May 2026 at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov Training Centre (Camp Basil) in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia.

Conducted under the framework of UN Chapter VII mandate, the exercise focuses on company-level joint operations in a sub-conventional environment, particularly relevant to peacekeeping and counter-insurgency scenarios.

The Indian side is represented by around 120 personnel, mainly from the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, while the Cambodian contingent includes 160 personnel from the Royal Cambodian Army.

Training activities will include:

  • Tactical drills and field exercises
  • Discussions on operational strategies
  • Specialized training in drone operations, sniper techniques, and mortar handling

The exercise will conclude with a validation phase to assess operational readiness and coordination.

North Tech Symposium 2026

India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, will inaugurate the North Tech Symposium on 4 May 2026 in Prayagraj. The event is themed “Raksha Triveni Sangam – Where Technology, Industry & Soldiering Converge.”

Jointly organized by the Indian Army’s Northern and Central Commands along with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers, the three-day symposium aims to bridge the gap between defence forces and indigenous technological innovation.

Key highlights include:

  • Participation of 284 companies
  • Involvement of MSMEs, startups, and defence tech firms
  • Exhibition of advanced indigenous solutions

The event focuses on identifying deployable technologies, improving maintenance systems, and streamlining procurement processes to strengthen India’s self-reliant defence ecosystem.

Chief of Naval Staff’s Visit to Myanmar

The Chief of Naval Staff, Dinesh K Tripathi, is on an official visit to Myanmar from 2 to 5 May 2026.

During the visit, he will hold discussions with senior Myanmar military leadership, including:

  • General Ye Win Oo
  • General U Htun Aung
  • Admiral Htein Win

These engagements are aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation, enhancing operational coordination, and exploring new collaboration opportunities.

The visit also includes:

  • Interaction with Myanmar Navy’s key commands
  • Tribute at the Armed Forces Fallen Heroes’ Memorial

Myanmar has been an active participant in Indian naval engagements such as:

  • Indian Ocean Naval Symposium
  • MILAN
  • International Fleet Review

Bullet-Proof Troop Carriers for Rashtriya Rifles

The Indian Army has initiated procurement of 159 bullet-proof troop carriers (BPTCs) for the Rashtriya Rifles, deployed in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

A Request for Information (RFI) has been issued to identify domestic vendors, with a required production capacity of at least 60 vehicles annually.

Key specifications include:

  • Speed: 80–100 km/h (road), 50–75 km/h (off-road)
  • Range: 350 km (plains), 300 km (mountains)
  • Operational altitude: up to 5,000 metres
  • Temperature tolerance: –10°C to 40°C

These vehicles are expected to significantly enhance mobility, safety, and operational efficiency in challenging terrains.

Israel’s Fighter Jet Acquisition Plan

Israel has approved a major defence acquisition plan to strengthen its air force by purchasing advanced fighter aircraft from Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

The deal includes:

  • A fourth squadron of F-35 fighter jets
  • A second squadron of F-15IA aircraft

This procurement forms part of a broader long-term defence strategy aimed at enhancing military readiness.

Future force structure is expected to include:

  • Around 100 F-35 aircraft
  • Over 100 upgraded F-16 jets
  • At least 50 F-15IA fighters

Israel joined the F-35 program in 2010, with operational deployment starting in 2017. These aircraft have since played a critical role in operations across multiple regions, including Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Gaza.
