Modi Commissions Indian Navy’s Frontline Platforms

In a landmark moment for India’s maritime preparedness and indigenous defence capability, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi commissioned three frontline platforms – INS Dunagiri, an advanced stealth frigate; INS Sanshodhak, a survey vessel (large); and INS Agray, an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft – into the Indian Navy in Kolkata, West Bengal on June 21, 2026. These state-of-the-art platforms will significantly enhance the nation’s operational capabilities, maritime security against geopolitical threats, and domain awareness.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister noted that the occasion coincides with the International Day of Yoga being celebrated across the world and expressed happiness at having the opportunity to visit the historic land of Bengal, which has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s intellectual, cultural and national renaissance and has connected India with the world through maritime routes for centuries. “The event represented an important milestone in the journey towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, a secure India and a developed India”, he said.
Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, the vessels represent key operational capabilities across maritime combat, hydrographic surveying, and anti-submarine warfare.
Together, they reflect the Navy’s balanced approach to capability development, strengthening blue-water operations, enhancing maritime domain awareness, and securing coastal waters against evolving threats.
Dunagiri, the fifth Project 17A stealth frigate, is equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, including BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles and the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile system, significantly enhancing the Navy’s combat capability.
Sanshodhak, the fourth Survey Vessel (Large), is designed for coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys and collection of oceanographic and geophysical data for defence and civil applications and is equipped with advanced survey systems including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles.
Agray, the fourth of the Arnala-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, is equipped with lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers, and shallow-water sonar systems to detect and engage underwater threats in littoral waters.
The three platforms demonstrate the growing maturity of India’s indigenous shipbuilding ecosystem, with indigenous content exceeding 75 percent. Their construction involved extensive participation by Indian industry, including more than 200 MSMEs, and generated substantial direct and indirect employment.

12th International Day of Yoga With “Yoga Sangam 2026”

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) marked the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with great enthusiasm and nationwide participation through its flagship initiative, “Yoga Sangam 2026.” Aligning with the Yoga Day 2026 theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the celebrations underscored the transformative role of yoga in fostering holistic health, resilience, and well-being across all age groups.
Commemorating the day, coordinated yoga sessions were conducted across all ICG ships and establishments across the country. Thousands of Coast Guard personnel and their family members participated in the yoga sessions led by trained yoga instructors featuring a comprehensive blend of asanas (yogic postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation practices.
The central event was held at the Indian Coast Guard Complex, Noida in association with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, in the presence of Director General Indian Coast Guard, DG Paramesh Sivamani and over 1,000 Coast Guard personnel and family members. In his address DG , ICG highlighted the enduring relevance of yoga as a powerful tool for maintaining physical vitality, mental well-being, and professional effectiveness, particularly for those engaged in operational duties.

Iran–US Talks in Switzerland: Key Outcomes of the First Round

The first round of high-level discussions between Iran and the United States concluded in Switzerland, marking an important diplomatic effort to reduce tensions and address long-standing disputes between the two countries. The talks were held with the support of mediators from Qatar and Pakistan and focused on regional security, economic issues, and the future framework of bilateral engagement.
Significant Progress Reported
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the discussions as constructive and stated that notable progress had been achieved during the negotiations. Although major differences remain, both sides agreed to continue technical-level discussions in the coming days.
60-Day Roadmap for Future Negotiations
One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the decision to establish a structured 60-day roadmap aimed at reaching a broader agreement. A high-level committee and specialized working groups are expected to oversee negotiations on key issues, including sanctions, regional stability, and nuclear-related concerns.
Strait of Hormuz Communication Mechanism
The two sides agreed to create a communication channel related to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. The mechanism is intended to reduce misunderstandings, prevent naval incidents, and ensure the safe movement of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.
Lebanon De-Confliction Cell
Another notable development was the agreement to establish a de-confliction mechanism concerning Lebanon. The initiative aims to prevent accidental escalation and improve coordination amid ongoing regional tensions involving various actors in the Middle East.
Economic and Sanctions Discussions
Iran indicated that the talks included discussions on sanctions relief, the release of frozen assets, and the restoration of oil exports. While no final agreement was reached, these issues are expected to remain central to future negotiations.
Challenges Remain
Despite the positive atmosphere reported by mediators, several contentious issues continue to divide the two countries. Regional conflicts, security concerns, and disagreements over Iran’s nuclear activities are expected to be major topics in subsequent rounds of negotiations.

Manipur to Get Two More Elite CRPF CoBRA Units

The Government of India has decided to strengthen security arrangements in Manipur by deploying two additional battalions of the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The move is aimed at restoring peace, preventing militant groups from regrouping, and improving security in conflict-affected areas of the state.
Why Are CoBRA Units Being Deployed?
Manipur has witnessed prolonged ethnic tensions and sporadic violence in recent years. To address security challenges and support efforts to restore normalcy, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the deployment of additional CoBRA battalions. These specialized units are expected to conduct targeted operations against armed groups involved in violence and insurgent activities.
What is CoBRA?
CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) is a specialized unit of the CRPF established in 2008. The force is highly trained in guerrilla warfare, jungle combat, intelligence-based operations, and counter-insurgency missions. It has played a crucial role in anti-Maoist operations across several states of India.
Additional Forces for Enhanced Security
Manipur already has one CoBRA battalion deployed in the state. GRSE Conferred Navratna Status: A Major Milestone for India’s Warship Builder

Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has been granted the prestigious Navratna status by the Government of India. The recognition marks a significant achievement for the Kolkata-based shipbuilder and reflects its strong financial performance, operational excellence, and contribution to India’s defence manufacturing sector.
What is Navratna Status?
Navratna status is awarded to select Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) that demonstrate consistent financial strength and operational efficiency.
The designation provides greater financial and administrative autonomy, enabling companies to make larger investment decisions and pursue expansion projects with reduced government approvals.
Recognition for Strong Performance
GRSE received Navratna status on 19 June 2026 after years of impressive growth. The shipyard’s revenue from operations increased from ₹1,754 crore in FY 2021-22 to ₹7,002 crore in FY 2025-26, while its profit after tax rose from ₹190 crore to ₹748 crore during the same period. These achievements highlight the company’s rapid expansion and operational efficiency.
CMD Calls It a Defining Moment
Chairman and Managing Director Commodore P. R. Hari described the conferment of Navratna status as a defining moment in the company’s journey. He stated that the recognition reflects the dedication of GRSE’s workforce and will empower the organization to explore strategic opportunities, strengthen self-reliance in defence manufacturing, and enhance its global competitiveness.
Contribution to India’s Maritime Strength
GRSE has played a vital role in strengthening India’s maritime capabilities. The shipyard has delivered more than 800 marine platforms, including 118 warships for the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and friendly foreign nations. Of these, 80 warships have been inducted into the Indian Navy.
The company also delivered eight warships during FY 2025-26, including:
