A delegation from the 8th Central Pay Commission, spearheaded by Member Secretary Pankaj Jain, IAS, conducted a pivotal visit to Air Force Station Pune on May 3, 2026. The primary objective of the visit was to gain comprehensive insights into the operational dynamics of the Indian Air Force.
Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by Air Commodore Satbir Singh Rai, the Air Officer Commanding at the station, and Air Commodore MK Anwer Shakir, who leads the 9 Base Repair Depot. Senior officers provided an in-depth briefing outlining the high-risk nature of military flying operations, underscoring the challenges both aircrew and ground personnel encounter in their day-to-day operations.
The visit emphasized the necessity of familiarizing the Commission with the integral roles played by diverse units within the Air Force. This includes critical services such as Air Traffic Control (ATC), Rescue and Fire Fighting teams, and maintenance crews, each vital for ensuring flight safety and the overall success of missions.
Throughout their tour, the delegation explored various facets of the Air Force’s operations, including visits to fighter and missile squadrons, radar units, and maintenance facilities. They were provided with extensive briefings concerning periodic testing procedures, stringent safety protocols, and the operational readiness standards upheld by the Indian Air Force.
This firsthand experience offered the delegation valuable exposure to the intricacies of air operations.
