GTO tasks in SSB are not about strength — they are about technique, coordination, intelligence, communication, and presence of mind.
This guide explains how female candidates can approach every major obstacle smartly, using technique over force.
1. The Snake Race / Group Obstacle Race
A chaotic yet fun task — teamwork matters more than speed.
Female-Friendly Strategies
- Don’t try to pull the rope alone; focus on synchronising steps with the group.
- Use low center of gravity for balance on slippery surfaces.
- When jumping over walls or nets, ask for light support — that shows team spirit, not weakness.
- Maintain constant cheering — emotional leadership boosts morale.
- Avoid carrying the snake on shoulders if uncomfortable — instead hold the middle portion firmly.
2. Screen Jump / Ramp Jump
A speed & confidence obstacle.
Strategies
- Take a two-step running start — don’t overrun.
- Use arms for balance; small controlled jumps work better.
- Keep your landing soft using a slight knee bend.
- Wear shoes with good grip to avoid slips.
3. Double Wall / High Wall
Intimidating for many female candidates, but technique beats strength.
Strategies
- Grab the top edge using a mixed grip (one hand forward, one backward) for maximum pull support.
- Use the foot-to-wall push method: one foot on wall → push up → swing leg over.
- Ask teammates to provide a hand-step support if allowed.
- Use core muscles, not just arms.
4. Tarzan Rope / Rope Swing
A confidence-based obstacle.
Strategies
- Hold the rope with thumb lock grip so it doesn’t slip.
- Lean back slightly before swinging forward.
- When landing, don’t jump fully — glide and step.
- Wear gloves if hands sweat easily.
5. Monkey Bridge / Burma Bridge
Balance is more important than speed.
Strategies
- Keep feet pointed straight; do not look down.
- Bend knees slightly for better stability.
- Keep arms tight on the upper rope — don’t lean back.
- Move steadily instead of rushing.
6. Commando Crawl / Under Barbed Wire
A low crawl requiring body coordination.
Strategies
- Keep body close to ground; avoid raising hips.
- Use elbow-first crawling for speed.
- Tie hair tightly in a bun to avoid distractions.
- If uniform gets stuck, don’t panic — slow, controlled movements.
7. Balance Beam / Plank Walk
Simple, but nerves can ruin it.
Strategies
- Take small, heel-to-toe steps.
- Fix eyes at the end point, not your feet.
- Keep arms stretched sideways.
- If shaky, pause, recollect your balance, then move.
8. Net Climb / Wall Net
Focus on technique, not muscle power.
Strategies
- Use right foot–right hand coordination (same-side movement).
- Keep hips close to the net for stability.
- Climb down carefully — many candidates slip while descending.
- Tighten grip using fingers, not just palm.
9. Rope Climb
One of the toughest for female candidates.
Strategies
- Use the S-wrap footlock technique instead of pure arm strength:
- Wrap rope around one leg
- Pinch with the other foot
- Stand on the rope
- Climb in small increments — pull → lock → stand → repeat.
- Focus on breathing rhythm: lift on exhale, lock on inhale.
10. Tunnel Crawl
A dark or narrow space task.
Strategies
- Enter with your dominant hand forward.
- Keep knees soft and move in a rhythmic pattern.
- Don’t rush — slow crawls are safer.
- If hair or clothing gets stuck, calmly adjust and move on.
11. Zig-Zag Balance / Tyre Walk
Coordination challenge.
Strategies
- Step in the centre of each tyre, not edges.
- Maintain forward momentum — stopping reduces balance.
- Keep arms slightly raised for better body control.
12. Long Jump / Ditch Jump
Requires confidence more than strength.
Strategies
- Take a strong running start but avoid overspeed.
- Jump at a 45-degree angle.
- Land softly on front foot and roll weight backward.
13. Passing Load with Group (PGT Tasks)
Female candidates excel naturally here.
Strategies
- Use your sense of coordination and planning rather than trying to lift heavy loads.
- Volunteer for thinking jobs like
- planning plank placement
- directing movements
- stabilising structures
- Use knees, not back, if lifting lighter planks or ropes.
14. Hanging Tire / Ring Walk Challenge
Requires grip + timing.
Strategies
- Use hook grip (thumb under fingers) while holding.
- Move only when the ring is stable.
- Keep body centred and avoid twisting.
15. Individual Obstacle – Tiger Leap
Psychologically tough.
Strategies
- Do a quick visual scan of landing area.
- Take a deep breath and leap without hesitation.
- Keep arms stretched forward while jumping.
- Land with knees slightly bent.
16. Individual Obstacle – Jumping Over Drum / Barrier
Safe technique is key.
Strategies
- Lift knees parallel to waist.
- Place one foot first, then push off.
- Maintain forward momentum.
17. Individual Obstacle – Tarzan Swing + Landing
Strategies
- Grip high on the rope.
- Use legs to stabilise mid-air movement.
- Release rope only when you’re exactly above the landing spot.
18. Individual Obstacle – Platform Jump
Strategies
- Check landing area quickly before climbing.
- Jump using both feet.
- After landing, allow knees to absorb shock.
19. Individual Obstacle – Ladder Climb
Strategies
- Maintain three points of contact at all times.
- Step firmly; avoid rushing.
- Be extra careful while descending.
20. Individual Obstacle – Wire Walk
Strategies
- Keep body upright.
- Move by sliding feet, not lifting.
- Hold side rope firmly for balance.
