In a significant milestone for the Indian Army, the first batch of 50 Agniveers has officially kicked off their training in the Aviation Stream of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (EME) at the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering (FAE) within the Military College of Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad. This training commenced on March 16, 2026, following a rigorous 10-week Basic Military Training (BMT) completed at the 1 EME Centre.
The Agniveers are now entering a critical phase of their military preparation with a 21-week Initial Technical Training (ITT) program focused on developing specialized skills essential for maintaining the operational readiness of the Army’s aviation fleet. During the inaugural address, the Dean of FAE MCEME underscored the vital importance of aviation technicians in the Corps of EME. Their work ensures that the Indian Army’s helicopter fleet remains airworthy and ready for missions during both peacetime and operational scenarios.
As part of their specialized training, the Agniveers will gain hands-on experience with the Army Aviation Corps’ fleet, including the Cheetah, Chetak, and Cheetal class helicopters. This comprehensive program aims to equip them with advanced technical skills necessary for the maintenance and repair of these critical aviation platforms.
Upon successful completion of their training, the Agniveers will serve in roles as Aviation Technicians, specializing in either Airframe or Aeroengine maintenance. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing the repair and maintenance infrastructure of Army Aviation. By elevating the skill set of these technicians, the training program aims to bolster the operational readiness and capabilities of the Indian Army’s aviation units, preparing them to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare.
