Four Killed in Israeli Air Strikes in Lebanon Targeting Hezbollah

Four individuals lost their lives in Israeli air strikes targeting Hezbollah positions in eastern and southern Lebanon on Thursday, as reported by the country’s health ministry. The attacks, which occurred in rugged mountainous regions, initially resulted in the deaths of two people. Subsequently, the ministry confirmed that an additional two fatalities were reported from a separate strike in the southern region near Nabatieh, which included an elderly woman among the deceased.

The official National News Agency (NNA) indicated that Israeli warplanes executed a series of intense attacks on the eastern mountain range of the Bekaa region, close to the Syrian border. Additionally, two strikes were aimed at the Hermel range located in northeastern Lebanon.

The Israeli military stated that these strikes were a response to Hezbollah, emphasizing that they had targeted “a military camp and a site for the production of precision missiles” within the Bekaa valley. In its communications, the military outlined that it had hit several “terrorist targets,” which included a training camp for Hezbollah militants. Furthermore, a weapons storage facility belonging to Hezbollah in the vicinity of Nabatieh was also struck.

Despite a ceasefire established last November, which marked the end of over a year of escalating conflict with Hezbollah — culminating in two months of open warfare — Israeli air strikes on Lebanon have continued. Under the terms of this ceasefire, Israeli forces committed to withdrawing from southern Lebanon while Hezbollah was supposed to dismantle its military presence in the area.

In light of escalating tensions and to mitigate further Israeli assaults, the Lebanese government has initiated steps to disarm Hezbollah. However, this plan faces strong opposition from the militant group and its allies, complicating the security situation in the region.
