France Blocks Access for Israeli Arms Manufacturers at Paris Air Show Over Offensive Weapons Display

France has taken a controversial step by blocking access to the stands of five prominent Israeli arms manufacturers at the Paris Air Show, citing the display of “offensive weapons.” This decision, confirmed by a French government source, resulted in the company stands of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Rafael, Uvision, Elbit Systems, and Aeronautics being concealed behind a black wall due to concerns over weapons allegedly used in conflicts, including those in Gaza.

The specific concerns revolve around the production of guided bombs and missiles by Rafael, Elbit, and IAI, while Uvision and Aeronautics are known for their drone technology. The French government’s move has sparked significant backlash from Israeli officials. Israeli President Isaac Herzog labeled the action as “outrageous” and demanded an immediate reversal, arguing that it effectively isolates Israeli companies within the event. He commented that the situation was akin to creating an “Israeli ghetto,” indicating frustration over the perceived discrimination.

In a formal statement, the Israeli Ministry of Defence described the decision as a form of “segregation” against the Israeli firms, denouncing it as an “outrageous and unprecedented” move influenced by political and commercial motivations.

Despite the limitations faced, approximately 75 companies related to the arms production sector were still scheduled to participate in the air show, which kicked off on Monday, showcasing military jets, helicopters, and drones. This year, there are fewer Israeli exhibitors than in previous editions, with nine companies set to present their technologies. This reduction follows a recent ruling from a French court that dismissed attempts by non-governmental organizations to ban Israeli participation based on their connections to the ongoing Gaza conflict.

The Paris Air Show, featuring over 2,400 companies from 48 countries, continues to serve as a significant platform for showcasing military advancements, reflecting the complexities surrounding international arms trade and geopolitical tensions.
