General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), marked his official visit to Sri Lanka by reviewing a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters in Colombo. This visit underscored the commitment of both nations to enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in the sphere of defense.
During the visit, General Dwivedi engaged in discussions with BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. Their conversations revolved around several key areas, including the strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation and the deepening of military-to-military ties. Both leaders emphasized their shared commitment to regional peace and security, aiming to foster a collaborative approach to the challenges they face.
A significant highlight of the engagement was the formal handover of military equipment, which included vehicles, ambulances, and training simulators. This tangible support is expected to enhance the operational readiness and training effectiveness of the Sri Lankan military, as well as improve capabilities in humanitarian responses. Such measures reflect the practical dimensions of the India–Sri Lanka defense partnership, showcasing an active commitment beyond mere discussions.
