On March 28, 2025, a significant graduation ceremony took place at the Air Traffic Control Officers Training Establishment (ATCOTE) in Hyderabad, marking the culmination of the 150th Air Traffic Surveillance Services (ATSS) Course and the 113th Air Traffic Management & Air Laws (Basic) Course. The event was presided over by Air Marshal S Shrinivas, Commandant of the Air Force Academy, who served as the Reviewing Officer.
During the ceremony, Air Marshal Shrinivas commended the graduates for their dedication and successful completion of the challenging training programs that are integral to their roles as Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs). He highlighted ATCOTE’s pivotal function within the Indian Air Force (IAF) to train and equip ATC officers with essential skills and knowledge for the safe and effective management of air traffic operations.
The 150th ATSS Course was designed to impart advanced knowledge and skills in areas such as radar surveillance and air traffic control techniques, preparing graduates to navigate complex operational scenarios confidently. This extensive training is crucial in enabling officers to manage dynamic operational environments, ensuring effective surveillance and management of airspace.
Conversely, the 113th Air Traffic Management & Air Laws (Basic) Course provided foundational training in essential air traffic management principles and aviation regulations, covering critical topics like air traffic flow, navigation procedures, and adherence to international aviation protocols. This foundational knowledge equips graduates to operate efficiently within the increasingly complex framework of air traffic management.
In his address, Air Marshal Shrinivas expressed his admiration for the officers’ professionalism and resilience throughout their training journey. He underscored the vital role that ATCOs play in maintaining safety and efficiency in air operations, especially as the complexity of airspace management escalates due to technological advancements and an increase in air traffic. He stated, “Controlling the skies is a responsibility that demands precision, vigilance, and unwavering focus,” reinforcing the importance of the skills gained during their time at ATCOTE.
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of standout officers who excelled in various aspects of their courses. Awards were presented by the Reviewing Officer to top performers, acknowledging their commitment to excellence and their adeptness at managing the demanding challenges presented by air traffic control.
The graduates are now prepared to significantly contribute to the safety, efficiency, and integrity of Indian airspace. Their expertise will play a pivotal role in the seamless functioning of military and civil aviation operations, further solidifying India’s stature in upholding high standards in air traffic management.
The successful completion of these training courses at ATCOTE exemplifies the Indian Air Force’s steadfast commitment to training, professionalism, and operational excellence in the realm of air traffic management, ensuring that the nation’s airspace remains safe, secure, and well-managed.
