In a significant counterintelligence operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has dismantled an espionage network based in Ahmedabad, detaining two individuals suspected of leaking classified military information to Pakistan. The accused have been identified as AK Singh, a former Subedar in the Indian Army who resides in Goa, and Rashmani Pal, who hails from Daman.
Initial investigations indicate that both suspects were in communication with handlers based in Pakistan and were involved in the transmission of sensitive military data. This critical development raises alarms about the extent of foreign espionage efforts targeting Indian security forces.
This operation follows a recent arrest by the ATS on November 9, where three individuals—Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, Mohd Suhel, and Azad—were apprehended near the Adalaj Toll Plaza. These suspects were allegedly engaged in supplying weapons intended for terrorist operations across India. The authorities recovered significant arms, including two Glock pistols, one Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges, and four liters of castor oil, believed to be used in the manufacture of explosives. According to the ATS, the trio was conspiring to execute coordinated attacks at multiple locations in the country.
Additionally, earlier on July 23, the ATS arrested four suspects linked to Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a designated terrorist organization. These individuals—Mohd Faiq from Delhi, Mohd Fardeen from Ahmedabad, Sefullah Kureshi from Modasa in Aravalli, and Zeeshan Ali from Noida—were placed under surveillance due to their suspected connections with AQIS.
ATS Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sunil Joshi confirmed that the arrested suspects were being closely monitored for activities that pointed towards potential terrorist affiliations. The recent series of arrests underlines the relentless efforts of the Gujarat ATS to eradicate espionage and terror networks that pose a threat to India’s national security.
