HII Introduces Sea Launcher for Autonomous Deployment of REMUS UUV

HII has unveiled its latest advancement in unmanned underwater vehicle technology with the introduction of the Sea Launcher system, designed to facilitate the autonomous launch and recovery of the REMUS unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). This innovative system marks a significant leap forward in operational efficiency and effectiveness for maritime missions.

The Sea Launcher itself measures 18 feet in length and 2 feet in width, with a weight of 800 pounds when not equipped with the UUV. This robust design is built on a strong-back aluminum base frame that has been reinforced with carbon fiber, ensuring durability and reliability in demanding marine environments.

A notable feature of the Sea Launcher is its carbon fiber recovery cradle, designed with soft support rails that provide gentle yet secure handling of the REMUS UUV. This thoughtful design consideration helps protect the vehicle during recovery, thereby extending its operational lifespan and enhancing overall mission success.

The advancements brought by the Sea Launcher system position HII at the forefront of autonomous underwater operations, offering a glimpse into the future of maritime technology. The integration of autonomous systems into naval operations is expected to improve both the speed and safety of underwater missions, paving the way for more effective responses to various challenges in marine environments.

As the defense industry continues to evolve with innovative technological solutions, HII’s Sea Launcher represents a significant milestone in enhancing the capability of unmanned systems for military and commercial applications alike.
