According to IAF authorities, the Indian Air Force recently conducted successful demonstrations of the Heavy Drop System from a cargo aircraft.
IAF conducts trials of Heavy Drop Systems
The Heavy Drop system was devised and developed by a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), according to officials. “The trial of the system has been completed in partnership with the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment towards achieving self-reliance in the military sector,” IAF officials said.
Para-dropping vehicles or big goods, as well as troops in front zones, deploy heavy drop devices during operations. The DRDO facility at Agra is in charge of developing such systems for the defence forces.

Heavy Drop System is used for Para drop of military stores (vehicles /ammunition/ equipment) of 7 Ton weight class. The Heavy Drop (P-7) System for IL-76 Aircraft consists of a platform & parachute system. Parachute System comprises a cluster of 5 Main canopies, 5 Brake chutes, 2 Auxiliary chutes & 1 Extractor parachute. The platform is a metallic structure made up of Aluminium/ Steel alloys with mechanisms like ADU & PFRL, a shock absorption system & quick unlashing accessories.
