IAF Wing Commander and Wife Assaulted in Bengaluru Road Rage Incident

In a shocking incident of road rage that unfolded in Bengaluru, Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose and his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Das, were reportedly assaulted while en route to Kempegowda International Airport early on Monday. The couple was traveling from the DRDO Colony in CV Raman Nagar when they encountered a confrontation on the road.

The altercation began when Madhumita Das, who was behind the wheel, had a disagreement with a man identified as Vikas Kumar, who approached from the opposite direction. This brief encounter escalated quickly into a physical confrontation that saw both parties exit their vehicles to engage in a fight. Witnesses reported that six to seven young bystanders attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, yet the conflict persisted and resulted in physical aggression.

Following the incident, Wing Commander Bose sustained visible injuries to his face and head, necessitating medical treatment at a local hospital. The situation drew immediate attention, prompting the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for East Bengaluru, D Devaraj, to address the media. “This is a clear case of road rage, which is becoming increasingly common in Bengaluru,” he stated, clarifying that the altercation was unrelated to any linguistic or regional issues.

Vikas Kumar, a Babusapalya resident employed at a call center, has since been arrested for his role in the assault. DCP Devaraj underscored the pressing concerns surrounding road rage incidents in the city, noting the frequency of such occurrences and the frustration expressed by citizens over lawlessness on Bengaluru’s roads.

This incident is part of a troubling trend in road safety violations, as highlighted by an earlier incident in TC Palya, where a car’s wing mirror was damaged during a similar road rage encounter. Authorities emphasize the necessity for citizens to report road-related disturbances immediately by calling 112 to facilitate a prompt police response.

As investigations into the attack on the IAF officers continue, authorities are reminding the public of the importance of maintaining traffic safety and adhering to road regulations, urging a community effort toward preventing future confrontations on the city’s increasingly perilous streets.
