Pune is set to become the focal point of an unforgettable athletic event as the inaugural “Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon” takes place on November 2, 2025. Scheduled to kick off at 5:45 AM at the Station Sports Ground in Lohegaon, the marathon will pay homage to the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the sole recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (PVC) from the Indian Air Force.
This marathon not only commemorates Sekhon’s valor but also encapsulates the core values of the Indian Air Force—spirit, courage, and patriotism. It aims to foster fitness and a sense of unity among participants, which will include serving IAF personnel, veterans, their families, and enthusiastic civilians from Pune and the surrounding regions.
The marathon will feature three distinct race categories: a 21 km run, a 10 km run, and a 5 km run, encouraging individuals of all ages and fitness levels to participate in this meaningful tribute. This aligns with the IAF motto, “Touch the Sky with Glory,” emphasizing the determination and excellence embodied by its members.
Importantly, the Pune marathon is part of a broader initiative, the Pan-India Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon, which is taking place simultaneously in 61 Air Force Stations throughout the country. This national event signifies a collective tribute to the heroic air warriors who serve the nation.
