Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi engaged in discussions with Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman of the Bangladesh Army during the United Nations Training and Cooperation Conference (UNTCC) 2025. The meeting underscored both leaders’ commitment to bolstering defense cooperation, enhancing training partnerships, and improving coordination in UN peacekeeping operations.
A post from the Indian Army on X highlighted the constructive nature of the talks, emphasizing a renewed dedication to strengthening defense ties and collaboration in peacekeeping efforts. This dialogue is indicative of the ongoing military cooperation between India and Bangladesh, aimed at fostering mutual trust and strategic alignment under multilateral frameworks.
The focus of the discussions included a shared vision for regional peace and stability, alongside an emphasis on advancing collaboration in defense technologies and humanitarian operations. Moreover, this constructive engagement aligns with previous interactions between the two nations, reflecting a consistent effort to enhance their military relationship.
In a related context, on August 28, Bharat Security Forces (BSF) Director General Daljit Singh Chowdhury participated in a joint press conference with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka. He reiterated the strong ties between the security agencies of both countries, particularly in combating illegal border crossings. Chowdhury revealed that around 550 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated in recent months as part of established bilateral protocols.
He also pointed out that over 2,400 verification cases regarding Bangladeshi nationals are pending with the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, some of which have been unresolved for more than five years. This backlog highlights the necessity of operational coordination between the BGB and BSF for efficient processing and deportation, ensuring that humanitarian considerations are upheld for individuals without criminal intent.
The dialogues between General Dwivedi and Lieutenant General Rahman, along with the ongoing initiatives by the BSF and BGB, illustrate a deepening military partnership focused on shared goals of peacekeeping, regional stability, and cooperative defense development. This momentum is set to continue as both nations work collaboratively to address mutual security challenges.
