India Lost Braveheart Petty Officer Ankush Sharma who was a MARCOS (Marine Commando) while conducting a parachute exercise at PTS, Agra Air Force Base. The incident was caused due the entanglement of the parachute in a high-voltage powerline on Friday. Ankush Sharma was posted in the Jammu and Kashmir region and was in a parachute training exercise in Agra.
About the Incident
In training, as he jumped out of the aircraft which was an AN-32 using a parachute, he presumably failed to spot the extremely high voltage powerlines because of the deviation of his parachute 2 Kilometers away from the dropping zone and due to high winds and got entangled in the power lines. Accordingly, farmers working in the fields noticed the paratrooper becoming entangled in the powerlines and promptly called authorities. Sharma was hurt after falling from a considerable height while attempting to untangle himself.
According to sources, officials hurried to the scene, and the commando was subsequently brought to a military hospital for treatment. Ankush Sharma died at the hospital from his injuries. Last month, another marine commando of the Navy lost his life while carrying out a parachute jump during training in West Bengal.

Ankush Sharma, hailed from Kothey Sadotrian village in Jammu’s Bishnah tehsil. On Saturday, the lifeless remains of Indian Navy petty officer Ankush Sharma were cremated with full military honors at Purmandal in Samba district. He is survived by his parents Sham Lal Sharma, a retired teacher, mother Tripta Devi, brother Pradeep Sharma and a sister. Ankush’s Unit is based in Vishakhapatnam, but he was posted in the J&K region and was in an exercise in Agra. His elder brother is serving in the Central Reserve Police Force.
