India to Beat China In Next 2-3 Years Along LAC in Infrastructure: India will surpass China in the next two to three years, according to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) chief Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government is proactively working to develop infrastructure along the 3,488-kilometer stretch of the Line of Actual Control, with 295 projects worth Rs 11,000 crore completed.

India to Beat China In Next 2-3 Years Along LAC in Infrastructure

When comparing the current administration to prior administrations in terms of border infrastructure development, In an exclusive interview with ANI, Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, Director General of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), stated that China began their push for infrastructure development all along the LAC far before India and that we began thinking about infrastructure development throughout the 3,488 Km line a decade ago.

“However, the current government has changed this thinking and policy and is now supporting us with a budget as well as all other vehicles and machines to accelerate our work all along the LAC,” he explained.

Taking notice of the Central government’s recent budget allocation for infrastructure development along the LAC, Chaudhry stated, “In 2008, our budget was approximately Rs 3,000 crore.” It climbed to Rs 5,000-6,000 crore in 2017. It climbed to Rs 8,000 crore in 2019 and continued to rise. And roughly Rs 12,340 crore was spent in the prior year.”

“The government is thinking proactively to develop infrastructure all along the border, which has really made our situation stronger, and maybe in two-three years or four years, India will be much ahead of China all along the borders in the infrastructure of roads, bridges, tunnels, and airfields,” said Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry.

He stated that 90 projects worth roughly Rs 2,940 crores will be dedicated to the nation this year by September. “On September 12, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit the Jammu region and inaugurate and dedicate 90 projects, including 22 roads, 63 bridges, one tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two strategic airfields–Bagdogra and Barrackpore–and two helipads, one in Rajasthan and one in Ladakh between Sasoma and Sasoma-Sasser La,” he said. According to a top BRO official, the government’s priority is the border districts of Ladakh and Arunachal.

“Of the 90 projects, 26 are in Ladakh and 36 are in Arunachal Pradesh…So our concentration is entirely on these two states, and we are moving considerably faster in these two states to, if I may say so, beat China in another two to three years,” Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry said.

He stated that another 60 projects will be completed by December, bringing the total number of projects to 150-160. “So the total cost of these projects will be around Rs 6,000 Cr, with 150 to 160 people involved.” So it’s a great time for the country because so many projects are being built along the border, and it’s boosting our army’s security metrics so they can deploy as far ahead as possible and deal with any crucial scenarios that happen…” he continued.

“We are not so close to the LAC, but in the last three years we have been accelerating our pace of work and we have completed 295 projects costing Rs 11,000 crore,” Chaudhry said of the development works undertaken along the Indo-China border. “This will provide us with last-mile connectivity to most forward posts, as well as ITBP posts, and will also aid in the socioeconomic development of our remote villages that were previously unconnected,” he added.
