In a heartfelt ceremony held on Wednesday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Airman Sachin Rohil was cremated with full military honours in his native village of Bhiwani Rohilla, located in the Hisar district of Haryana. The 22-year-old airman tragically lost his life while heroically attempting to rescue a civilian from drowning in the Bharali river near Bhalukpong, in Assam’s Sonitpur district.
The funeral service attracted an outpouring of grief from the community, with hundreds of mourners in attendance. Among them were IAF officials, local political leaders, and village residents who came to pay their respects. BJP MLA Randhir Panihar, alongside Flight Lieutenant Anubhuti Bhardwaj and local tehsildar Anil Bidhan, laid wreaths on behalf of the Indian Air Force and the district administration, symbolizing their admiration and respect for Rohil’s bravery. MLA Panihar highlighted the act of sacrifice as one of exceptional courage and selflessness, emphasizing the noble character demonstrated by the young airman.
Sachin Rohil was serving with the 11th Air Wing of the Indian Air Force in Tezpur, Assam, after enlisting on January 1, 2020. Born on March 23, 2002, he was the eldest son in his family and leaves behind his mother and younger brother, Sagar. tragically, Rohil’s father had passed away in a road accident prior, leaving the family with a profound sense of loss.
In a poignant reflection, his brother Sagar shared, “Sachin always wanted to serve the country, and he did so till his last breath,” encapsulating the essence of their bond and Rohil’s dedication to his service.
The final rites also saw participation from ex-servicemen, local leaders, and numerous sarpanchs from surrounding villages, all coming together to honour the young airman who made the ultimate sacrifice not in the throes of combat but through a selfless act to save another life.
In recognition of his bravery, the Indian Air Force has lauded Rohil’s actions as a testament to the highest traditions of service and humanity, underscoring the enduring legacy of courage that resonates through his sacrifice.
