In a momentous celebration of discipline and achievement, the Indian Air Force (IAF) recently conducted a grand valedictory function at Air Force Station Begumpet to honor the successful completion of three of its key training programs: the 108th Advance Navigation Course (ANC), the 140th Ab-Initio Navigation Course, and the Weapon Systems Ab-Initio Stage-II Course.
The ceremony, held at the prestigious Navigation Training School (NTS) and Weapon Systems School (WSS), signified a pivotal milestone for the young officers and cadets of the IAF. Clad in immaculate white uniforms, the graduating batch stood proudly alongside senior officers and instructors, marking the conclusion of months dedicated to rigorous academic and practical training.
During the event, outstanding performers were recognized and celebrated with trophies and awards, set against a dignified backdrop that prominently featured the IAF emblem and the inscription “Valedictory Function.” This gathering not only highlighted individual achievements but also underscored the IAF’s unwavering commitment to excellence, professionalism, and technological advancement within the aviation and warfare domains.
Established in 1946 as the Air Navigation School at the Royal Indian Air Force Station, Tambaram, the Navigation Training School, also known as ‘TERNS,’ has a rich legacy. It moved to Begumpet in 1967 and has been pivotal in grooming generations of navigators for the IAF. In March 2024, NTS celebrated its Platinum Jubilee with a series of events, including seminars, air displays, and the issuance of a special commemorative cover by Air Marshal R. Radhish.
The Weapon Systems School, inaugurated in recent years by the Chief of the Air Staff, plays a crucial role in training officers to adeptly operate advanced weapon systems, reflecting the evolving demands of modern aerial warfare.
This year’s valedictory function continued a legacy of excellence at Begumpet, reminiscent of the 2021 ceremony for the 101st ANC and the 133rd Ab-Initio Navigation Course, which adhered to strict health protocols due to the pandemic. In previous years, trainees from the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and friendly foreign nations have participated in these elite courses, emphasizing the inclusive and strategic nature of the IAF’s training initiatives.
As the IAF increases its capabilities to address shifting regional security threats, this event comes at a crucial juncture. With the motto “Touch The Sky With Glory,” the IAF remains resolute in its mission to guard India’s airspace while continually investing in future-ready training programs.
The graduates of the 108th ANC, 140th Ab-Initio Navigation, and Weapon Systems Stage-II Course are now poised to integrate into the operational cadre of the IAF, fully equipped to bolster national security with precision, valor, and advanced technological skills.
