An Agniveer of the Indian Army lost his life, and two other personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), sustained injuries in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district on Friday.
The fallen soldier has been identified as Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who was serving in the 7 JAT Regiment. The tragic incident occurred while the troops were engaged in an area domination patrol in a forward sector that is known for its hazardous presence of anti-personnel mines.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed the incident in a statement on the microblogging platform X. They expressed their condolences, stating, “GOC WhiteKnightCorps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol in the general area of Krishna Ghati brigade on 25 July 2025, following a mine blast. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”
The injured personnel were quickly evacuated to a nearby military medical facility, and reports indicate that they are currently stable.
The region has been a focal point for security operations, as the Indian Army routinely conducts patrols to thwart infiltration attempts and monitor any suspicious activities along the tumultuous border. However, landmine-related incidents remain a significant danger in the area, particularly during routine operational movements.
Further details regarding the incident are awaited as the army continues to assess the evolving situation.
