In an extraordinary feat showcasing resilience and national pride, a cycle expedition team from the Indian Army’s ‘Forever in Operations Division’ has triumphantly completed a formidable 680-kilometre journey through the challenging terrain of Ladakh. This ambitious expedition commenced on June 25 at the Siachen Base Camp, culminating at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, with the final destination reached on Saturday.
A defense spokesperson detailed the adversities faced by the 20-member team, who navigated harsh weather conditions and rugged landscapes, tackling some of the world’s most daunting mountain passes, including the famed Khardung La, Fotu La, and Hambuting La. This arduous journey not only tested their physical limits but also served as a poignant tribute to the essence of national service and the memory of sacrifices made during the Kargil War.
Throughout their expedition, the soldiers engaged meaningfully with the local communities, particularly focusing on the youth. In an effort to promote awareness and inspire future generations, they interacted with over 1,100 students from 11 government schools located in remote villages, as well as students at Ladakh University. These discussions centered around the Indian Army’s legacy, the significance of the Kargil War, and the profound sacrifices made by soldiers to protect the country’s sovereignty.
The team also had the opportunity to connect with National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the first and second Ladakh NCC battalions at Leh and Silmo. During these interactions, they shared motivational insights and underlined the role of the NCC in cultivating disciplined and service-oriented citizens. The team leader took the time to inspire young minds by discussing career opportunities within the Indian Army, urging them to embrace the noble calling of serving the nation with honor and integrity.
Throughout the expedition, the soldiers were met with a heartening reception from local residents and Army personnel alike. The enthusiastic cheers and warm hospitality extended by civilians along the route highlighted a profound connection between the Army and the people of Ladakh.
