The Indian Army successfully concluded its specialized Mortar Course for Junior Leaders at the Infantry School in Mhow on March 10, 2026. This program was meticulously crafted to enhance the technical proficiency and battlefield effectiveness of junior leaders, drawing together soldiers from the Indian Army alongside personnel from friendly foreign nations for intensive training in mortar operations and fire support.

The closing ceremony celebrated the achievement of participants after several weeks of rigorous training focused on improving the accuracy, coordination, and tactical employment of mortar systems within combat scenarios. Trainees received extensive instruction on various facets of mortar deployment, including fire control procedures, target acquisition, and the vital coordination with infantry units. These skills are essential for ensuring effective indirect fire support during military operations.

During the ceremony, senior instructors encouraged the soldiers to utilize the knowledge and practical skills acquired throughout the course to boost their effectiveness and precision in battlefield fire support. They stressed the crucial role that mortars serve in modern combat situations, particularly in delivering responsive and accurate indirect fire to augment infantry maneuvers.

Additionally, the course showcased the Indian Army’s dedication to fostering defense cooperation with friendly foreign nations. Alongside Indian Army soldiers, seven participants from Tanzania, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and the Maldives participated in the training, emphasizing the strengthening military-to-military cooperation and professional exchange between India and its partner countries.

At the end of the program, exceptional performers were acknowledged for their achievements. Lance Havildar Arun Kumar was awarded the title of Overall Best Student, demonstrating remarkable proficiency in both the theoretical and practical aspects of mortar operations. Corporal Zuhain Ahmed Mohamed of the Maldives National Defence Force was recognized as the Best Foreign Student for his outstanding performance during the course.

The Infantry School at Mhow, recognized as one of the Indian Army’s premier training institutions, continues to play a crucial role in developing highly skilled infantry leaders and enhancing overall combat capabilities.
