The Indian Army has officially confirmed the loss of Sepoy Akshit Sharma from the 9 Punjab Regiment, who tragically passed away on March 10, 2026, during a training exercise in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. This loss has deeply affected the military community, prompting the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps and all ranks to pay their respects to the valiant soldier.
According to preliminary reports, Sepoy Sharma went missing during routine military training when he slipped and fell into the Munawar Tawi river. Despite the immediate response of fellow soldiers who initiated rescue efforts, the challenging currents of the river and the ruggedness of the terrain hindered their attempts to recover him promptly.
In light of the situation, the Indian Army launched an extensive search and rescue operation involving teams of soldiers and local rescue personnel. These efforts persisted despite the adversities posed by the treacherous water conditions and the surrounding landscape.
Sepoy Akshit Sharma, who had dedicated approximately seven years to serving in the Indian Army, was a member of the distinguished 9 Punjab Regiment, a unit celebrated for its rich heritage of bravery and excellence in combat.
In an official statement, the White Knight Corps expressed profound sorrow and solidarity with Sharma’s grieving family. The formation stated, “In this hour of profound grief, the White Knight Corps stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and prays for strength and courage to the loved ones of the Braveheart.”
The Indian Army community has united in remembrance of Sepoy Sharma’s extraordinary commitment and sacrifices. His dedicated service epitomizes the unwavering spirit of soldiers who protect the nation under the most strenuous conditions.
Additional details regarding the incident and preparations for the final rites are anticipated to be released by authorities in the near future.
