Indian Army Launches Swift Rescue Operation During Amarnath Yatra Landslide

The Indian Army swiftly initiated a coordinated rescue operation following a landslide near Z Morh on the evening of July 16, which disrupted the Amarnath Yatra, leaving thousands of pilgrims stranded between Rayalpathri and Brarimarg in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials reported that despite adverse weather conditions and the challenging terrain, Army personnel stationed at Brarimarg acted promptly to provide crucial emergency shelter and relief to approximately 500 Yatris. The stranded pilgrims were offered hospitality in tents, where they were provided with tea and clean drinking water. Additionally, nearly 3,000 more Yatris were successfully relocated to nearby langars, where they received meals and shelter from the inclement weather.

A remarkable highlight of the operation was the intervention by Army Quick Reaction Teams, which manually evacuated a seriously ill pilgrim trapped in a perilous location at Rayalpathri. The team utilized a stretcher to safely transport the individual to a secure area, where urgent medical care was administered.

In conjunction with these efforts, Army officials, including the Camp Director and Company Commander, are actively monitoring the situation. While light rain persists in the region, the circumstances have stabilized, and the Army has remained on high alert to address any potential emergencies that may arise.

This rescue operation not only illustrates the Indian Army’s commitment to humanitarian efforts during the 2025 Amarnath Yatra but also emphasizes their dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of pilgrims navigating hazardous mountain routes.
