In a considerable advancement for local outreach and community engagement, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Surya Command, inaugurated a new Community Radio Station named โVoice of Spitiโ in Giu/Gue, Himachal Pradesh, on October 2, 2025. This initiative represents the second community radio station set up by the Indian Army in the border regions of the state, demonstrating a dedicated commitment to the socio-cultural development of these areas.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Army Commander, along with Mrs. Ruchira Sengupta, Regional President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), engaged with local residents, emphasizing the Indian Armyโs steadfast support for the empowerment and welfare of communities residing in remote and high-altitude areas.
โVoice of Spitiโ is designed to serve as a grassroots communication platform tailored to the needs of local inhabitants. The station is set to broadcast a variety of content, including local news updates, cultural programs, educational initiatives, healthcare awareness campaigns, and critical public information. This initiative aims to bridge the communication gap faced by isolated communities, help preserve local traditions, and foster participatory development.
The establishment of this radio station highlights the Indian Armyโs ongoing dedication to enhance civil-military cooperation in the region. By increasing access to information in remote border villages, the Army seeks to reinforce the emotional ties between the military and the people of Spiti Valley. Initiatives like these reflect the Armyโs commitment to standing alongside citizens, ensuring that even the most remote areas remain informed, connected, and empowered.
