On Saturday evening, an army soldier who had returned home on leave went missing in south Kashmir’s Kulgam area, leaving his family fearful that he had been kidnapped. The army, police, and paramilitary forces conducted a huge search operation in the area, although no official confirmation of his kidnapping was provided.
Indian Army Soldier: Rifleman Javed Ahmad Wani
The missing soldier has been identified as Rifleman Javed Ahmad Wani, 25, of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry regiment. He was stationed in Leh and had returned home to spend Id with his family.
The family made an emotional plea to Javed’s claimed kidnappers to rescue him, saying they would ask him to leave the army if they saved his life. On Sunday, Javed’s mother informed reporters at her home in Asthal village that his son had gone out to buy some household items on Saturday afternoon.
“Around 7 p.m., we called him. He stated that he had left (adjacent) Chawalgam village to purchase beef. “His brother called him again later and said he’d be home in five minutes,” she explained. After that, the family lost contact with Javed and began seeking him when he did not return by 9 p.m. Javed’s automobile was discovered near a market, but he could not be located.
His father has pleaded with people who may have kidnapped the soldier to release him alive because he was the family’s sole earner. “I beg all the brothers to let him live.” I apologise if he has caused any inconvenience. “If they want, I will also get him to quit his job,” Mohammad Ayoub Wani told reporters.
Wani stated that his son had gone out to buy meat on Saturday evening before returning to his posting on Sunday. “He instructed his brother to pick him up at the airport tomorrow (Sunday).” “We got a call later that his car had been found abandoned with its doors ajar,” the father explained.
Eyewitnesses allege there were blood stains in the automobile, although investigators have not confirmed this. To rescue the soldier, police have launched raids around the Kulgam district and surrounding locations.
