The Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army recently conducted a significant joint conference with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), inclusive of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The conference was themed “Together we train – Together we fight,” aiming to enhance coordination and operational synergy for improved border management and integration.
Taking place in a strategically decorated meeting room bearing the emblem of the Gajraj Corps and the motto “Zenithang Warriors,” the event gathered senior officers from the Indian Army, ITBP, and SSB. The discussions primarily zeroed in on tactical strategies designed to bolster operational preparedness along India’s extensive borders, particularly the 3,488 kilometers of the India-China border, which is primarily managed by the ITBP in collaboration with the Army. The need for seamless cooperation between the forces was underscored, especially in light of historical challenges related to accountability and coordination in border patrolling roles, which have been topics of debate between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Army in the past.
Headquartered in Tezpur, Assam, the Gajraj Corps possesses a rich history, most notably its involvement in the advance to Dhaka during the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war. This conference is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation in the eastern theater, an initiative that holds particular significance amidst rising border tensions with China. Evidence of the Corps’ commitment to joint operations can be observed in recent exercises; for instance, the ‘Jal Rahat’ flood relief operation in Assam in 2023 involved collaboration among various agencies, including the SSB and the National Disaster Response Force, to enhance disaster response coordination.
Photographs from the conference revealed a unified front as officers posed together, with the Indian flag and the insignias of the Army, ITBP, and SSB prominently showcased. A separate outdoor gathering included personnel seated against a striking mountainous backdrop, further emphasizing the strategic relevance of the region. The conference aligns with a broader strategy by the Indian Army, which has recently received accolades from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for successfully stabilizing areas like Jammu and Kashmir through coordinated counter-terrorism efforts with CAPF.
This joint initiative reflects the Gajraj Corps’ commitment to a “Nation First” philosophy, which aims to strengthen relationships and training synergies among India’s border security forces, thereby ensuring a robust and adaptable defense framework.
